Beware: they broke Landlord/Tenant Act laws, don't return calls, never fix anything, & double charged us!

We started renting a home through Brewer Caldwell two years ago and let me just say it was the biggest mistake of my husband's life and mine. The house was not cleaned at all! I have pictures to prove how dirty it was. There were insects everywhere, layers of dust and dirt on the windows; the dishwasher was full of plastic, metal and tiny GI Joe figurines. We were missing appliances that we were promised. The carpet was stained and didn't look cleaned at all. Also the front living room carpet was not tacked down and there were dangerous nails exposed. Also it took about two weeks to get the washer, dryer and refrigerator to be delivered even though it was promised at move-in.

Our first problem was right from the start. The previous tenants of the house racked up a huge water bill. BC said that if we paid the water bill they would take that amount out of our move-in costs. We agreed and the same day as signing the lease we paid the water bill to APS. Apparently the next day the owner of the home paid the water bill so APS took our money and put it as a credit to the water bill. This was in the middle of July.in the beginning September we got an eviction notice stating we owed BC money in the exact amount that we paid the water company. We called APS who told us it would take a few months to get the money back and tried to explain to BC that we followed the lease agreement and this is something they should be fixing. They ignored that and said if we didn't pay them we would be evicted. I paid BC in fear of losing my rental house and also filed a complaint to the BBB. Also with all of this we were without water for about a week and half to two weeks, which is against the Landlord & Tenant Act.in Arizona Landlords MUST supply the house with running water, cold and hot! I talked to Jared over the phone and told him we should be compensated for the trouble we have gone through. He screamed at me over the phone saying I just wanted money and I was being selfish and greedy.

The day we moved in we told BC that they needed to tack down the carpet in the front living room. After months of waiting and calling they did nothing about it and unfortunately our dog noticed the carpet sticking up and starting pulling out some threads. We had to pay $435 dollars to replace the carpet they should have fixed to begin with.

Our dishwasher doesn't wash or dry the dishes, the washer over flows if put on a large cycle setting and two of the burners on the stove don't work. We called BC many times on these things and were they fixed? Nope. After weeks and even months of call after call they finally sent someone for the dishwasher and the man from the appliance company informed me that the heating ring on the dishwasher was too old and the entire dishwasher needed to be replaced. It never was.

The back arcadia door lock constantly breaks and has had to be replaced several times because it is cheap. If you pull the door hard enough anyone could get that door open.instead of putting a different, safer locking mechanism on the door they just kept replacing the door lock. The guys who came to fix it noticed the frame of the door way was warped and said that the lock would keep breaking until the frame was repaired and the arcadia door could fix properly into the frame.

A few months back I was searching the Internet and trying to find reviews on this company to see if it was just us or if others were having problems. I noticed on a few sites that they had a decent rating and I couldn't understand why. Well I found if you Google the word Brewer Caldwell there is a site linked that has the words homeownernet. Read that, it's interesting and quite pathetic. I see others have seen it as well.

Every time we have had something that needed to be fixed they would take weeks, months or never show up at all. They never return our calls and our property manager is never around! Also they seem to go through employees like they're going out of style! In the past two years we have had about 4 or 5 different property managers. The people who work for Brewer Caldwell are either young and clueless or rude and mean.

Here is something that is bound to make a jaw drop. This company is very disorganized. A couple of months ago I was looking through my lease and realized that we never got a copy of the first move-in inspection form. I called BC and requested a copy. They don't have it! They lost the original copy and have no way of knowing what damages were in the house before we moved in!!! Unbelievable. So, if you want a nice house, a great company to work with, amazing service and to be completely satisfied DO NOT rent through this company. You'll really be kicking yourself later if you do.
