We ordered a Golden West Manufactured Home from Don at Horizon and the home that was delivered was not what we ordered.
On January 17 we faxed Paulette exactly what colors, counters, lino, carpet, roof, cabinets and drapes we wanted in the house. On January 24 Paulette requested that we send her another copy, she could not find the one sent on the 17th.
On January 29, Don ordered our manufactured home and never sent us a copy. Several times we requested a copy of what Don ordered, now knowing how details seemed to slip away from him and his staff and we were never asked to sign the order before it went in.
A copy was finally sent to us via fax on March 7. We immediately noticed the incorrect color of the roof and cabinets and there were several other smaller problems like the lino had a? Mark by the item because they did not have what we ordered but Don never contacted us to ask us what other color we would like. We immediately called the manufacturer to let them know what their representative Don had done. We, in writing asked the manufactured not to deliver the home until we settled the problem. They informed us Don had ordered it incorrectly and it was not their problem. They would however contact Don and get back to us. This never happened.
The next thing we know, and only because we called Don the next week is that Don had the home delivered and had put the home on our property without telling us. Since we did not know the home was on the property there was no insurance on it for a week!
We have all the documentation.
During our purchase, Don threatened us to pull the deal because he said we had changed our minds several times but in fact we were correcting his mistakes about what we ordered like he kept calling our gas home an electric home and he forgot items on the paper work or for instance we had to tell him that the up-graded bathroom came with carpet and he tried to charge us extra for that. Items like this went on and on and at lease four (4) times while the home was on the property he threatened that he would remove the home from the property if we did not cooperate with him.
Everything he touched needed to be redone. We were coming from California to Oregon and he would tell us his items were done and he would make our lender think we were holding up the deal. Then we would rush to Oregon to find his work was not done, like he told us the water was connected and when we got here to build the steps there was a huge trench that we had to carry the wood and materials over which was dangerous and in the heat of summer there was no water or bathroom to use, it was horrible.
Another time we rushed back to Oregon for a final inspection and the carpet was not finished and his work was not done and our lender was mad and asked why she had to drive over an hour to be there and I have her list from that experience. All the time he would say I have been doing this 20 years. Bill and I cannot believe no one has taken the time to write this man up. When we first went to Don to purchase our home it was like a beautiful wonderful home and by the end it was what do you expect from a manufactured home. If we came to buy a car that was $70,000.00 we would be treated like gold. $70,000.00 is $70,000.00 and we expected to get what we ordered and this is no small amount of money.
We now have cabinets that are Oak when all our wood is dark in nature. We have a gray roof instead of a green one. Carpet is pieced together because of not communicating with the carpet man.
And as time has gone on we have found out we are not the only ones in our neighborhood that has had similar problems. One neighbor Don ordered the wrong outside color of the home.
I can only say that my husband has a terminal illness and the stress that this man put on our family was enormous!
