I hired Tony Roehr after seeing his ad in the newspaper on 09-19-07. I wanted a deck removed and a room addition in it's place.
He came over, gave me a quote, the lowest, that should have been a sign. He seemed to know what he was talking about. After several bids I hired him. I called the BBB and they had no complaints. His contract said draws as needed. (Don't fall for that one)
He had a guy named Danny demo the exisiting deck. All seem fine and he started off with a bang. I think Danny worked 3.5 days total. Then the delays, 2 old permits were on the home, the projects were never done. Tony told me to go and take a letter to the city to have them removed. I did and the city said that I didn't need too. They had expired. I asked Tony for a copy of the engineers report and soil sample test after he kept telling me he was waiting for the report.
Another week went by, no work done. The concrete folks (Clavez's) did come out one Sat to dig for the slab and put in the forms. Tony didn't have the plastic or rebar ready for them to do the job. The next day they built the forms. No work was ever completed after that. I wrote Mr. Roehr checks on the following dates: 9-19-07,9-25-07.9-28-07,10-1-07,10-9-07. A total of over $ 10,000.00. The entire job was to cost around 13,000.00.
I gave him another check to buy supplies left town on Wed to attend a funeral and returned Friday. No supplies were delivered.
I called him and he said he would come by Monday. He called and never come by. That's when I told him I had researched him on the internet and found out that he was a fraud and he had connned other people. I made a police report. The Detective (Woodward) told me he could not get involved as we had a contract and it was a civil matter. What a waste of time, they sure do protect and serve in Austin! Tony told me I was trying to scam him. He told me to contact his lawyer. A Lawyer in Houston that told me he never heard of him.
The City had Mr Roehr's name listed as doing another job on Jewel Street. I attempted to contact the owner of the house but have gotten no answer. I ended up having to hire a lawyer since Mr Roehr told me to contact his lawyer.By law Mr Roehr had 45 days to respond to the letter the lawyer sent him. He missed that deadline but did send a letter saying a bunch of crock. I know plan to sue him. I know the chances of collecting any of my money back is slim but I refuse to allow him to do this to other homeowners.
He is quite the talker and bull shi*er. Don't trust this man. I did leave Tony a message saying I would pursue this matter to the fullest extent. Since this is a civil matter the police would not do anything to asisst me. The city told me he is not registered as a contractor. The state of Tx didn't have him as having a contractors license either when I called them. Please feel free to contact me at 512-292-3345 if you want to join forces and go after this scammer.
Just think Tony vounteered as a coach for a catholic school here in Austin at Oltoff and Congress. Go figure. I wonder what motive he had doing that? I did contact that school and spoke with principal (Todd). Todd was not willing to help me due to privacy/confidential records. Go figure, the Catholic Church cares more about the con-artist than the victim/s. Tony's letter to my lawyer said if he didn't hear from him in 10 days he would contact a lawyer? Tony left me a message in Oct telling me to contact his lawyer and left his name and number. More lies? Get your story straight Tony.
