This dishonest so called businessman starts by sending out a neat postcard advertising fiberglass pools that have low cost, low maintenance and can be done in 2 weeks. Even his website at http://www.affordablepoolsbydesign.Biz advertise this 2 week claim.
After finding it hard to give references, he reluctantly does and some of the references were over a year old. It seemed though these references were so-so at best, it may be ok to go with his company. He claims to be in partnership with someone else in this company.
We put together a contract and negotiated price and items he would and would not do in this contract. His requirement is 50% up front, 45% at time pools arrives (must be money order or cashiers check) and given to him before the pool is taken off of the truck, leaving a pittance of 5% at completion.
We have spoken to 3 other people who have experienced horrible problems, broken promises and out and out lies from Craig Stone at Affordable Pools by Design so our story is only 1 of 3 we KNOW to be true and we would suspect there are many more out there.
In our contract, the pool was to be completed within 2 weeks of Homeowners approval allowing us to put in a pool. That was June 19th and here it is August 12th and we still are not in our pool and have no Final Inspection approval.
Not only is our pool not finished and we cannot use it but the whole experience dealing with this con artist has be horrible. He only showed up to sell us the pool, to get signed contract and down payment check and to get the 2nd check before the pool was taken off the truck. 95% of the time he will not answer his phone however if you owe him money or something is costing him more than he thinks he should spend, he will answer.
We will go into more detail however we even had one of his sub contractors call us threaten to put a lien on our home because he had not paid them. We heard this from multiple sub contractors. They had to wait and wait for their payment. Affordable pools seems quick to collect their payment due however do not deliver what they promise and NOT on time and take their time if ever paying their sub contractors. The sub contractors are consistantly changing because of this problem.
We had many items specifically listed in our contract that were NEVER provided and that we had to PAY EXTRA to have performed and/or ordered and delivered. Craig (as general contractor) DOES NOT oversee anything with the pool. All he does is try to find the cheapest workers and is on the phone all day trying to scam his customers and have contractors do work they are not even qualified to do. He tries to get whatever work he can out of whoever will do it (regardless if they are trained properly to do the work)
I could go on and on and on. The man is a slick talking scammer. It appears he did this in other cities and then had to move on.in Georgia, we are banding together so other people are not ripped off by this good for nothing so called businessman. We want everyone here in Georgia to know what he is about and be warned before they even consider him for their pool. He can just move on to the next city and state because we are not happy with his work and do not want other people who are excited to be getting a pool to be disappointed and lied to as we have been.
DO NOT USE AFFORDABLE POOLS BY DESIGN-Craig Stone does not do what he says or do what the contracts state. There is also a Jeff Bailey somehow involved in this business. If this is him or a partner, we do not know but the home which the business is registered in the State of Georgia is owned by Jeff and Rebecca Bailey. 4072 Creekrun Circle, Buford Georgia.
