This has already been resolved for me by a lawyer, but I felt it necessary to share my story with this company. We responded and set up an appointment for an Ad we read that described a fee security system with purchase of monthly monitoring. We were brand new homeowners. The guy was real pleasant, but we explained to him that it would depend on my getting a certain percentage of raise and that we wouldn't know what I received for about three months.
He said he could solved that problem if we would fill out the paperwork. He told us to sign a bunch of papers and we would be able to cancel in 90 days rather than the usual business contract 3 days. He even went as far as to write "90 days" on the manilla folder of ours with copies of everything we signed. I got his cell number so that I would be able to reach him as soon as I found out about my raise.
A few days later, my husband lost his job. Obviously, my raise no longer mattered and we would have to cancel this system thing. We never had any installation and I called him only four days after signing the papers. I didn't see any problem. You can guess that he had a problem with the cancelation and he even threatened to SUE US for breaking the contract.
He laughed at me and told me that he has a copy of my husband's signature on the 3 day cancelation policy and there's nothing I can do about it. He told me it would be better for me to just have the system installed and pay the monthly fee. I of course told him I would contact the BBB, the attorney general of PA, as well as my personal attorney. He laughed and hung up on me.
My lawyer wrote the company a very nasty letter regarding their business practices and demanded back the $50 we had paid as a "processing fee". We ened up getting a refund and apparently this man wasn't able to serve us courtpapers as he wouldn't win trying to sue us for anything.
