March of we lived in Ny and decided because of cost of living to move to N. Carolina. We drove to NC and had one week to find a home and a job. My husband found a job but I had a hard time finding a home until I found LaProperties. They had numerous rentals but selective few in our price range. I asked for the keys for a 3 bedroom I had saw on their bulletin board.
When I viewed the home it was slightly dark because they had shades on every window. My first view was it looked freshly painted, clean and reasonable. I returned to LAProperties and my brother co-signed the year lease for us. I then paid a month and a half upfront including a non-refunable pet deposit.
We then returned back to NY to load up a uhaul of our furniture and returned to the house in NC. Prior turning the electric on, it would not work. It being a weekend I had a hard time getting a hold of anyone. Electric eventually showed up and found our electric line had been disconnected from the house and had told me this is something many realitors do to save money of them paying maintence. He did make it clear to me that it was not his job to hook up the electric to the house but he would seeing it was the weekend.
When he left we proceeded inside to unpack and found the refrigerator LAProperties was suppose to supply did not work. Over the weekend I then replaced that. Moving in we also found a few windows that were broken but appeared super glued together.
In the past year of living here, those windows lost the grip of the super glue and have become broke all together. The a/c leaks through the livingroom ceiling where it is unusable at times. The cheap paint on the ceiling, walls and bathtub has all wore of showing mold has been presently for quite sometime. The shower wall has lost its coat of paint as well and now the wall is falling apart to the point theres a huge gap between the shower wall and outside wall and we have lil creatures from under the house creeping in our shower. Before to long we will not have a shower wall at all.
We also have a window in our shower that we have tried to cover but only ended up adding to the mold and making the wood weak to where we may have a huge hole to the outside before to long. I was promised a fan in the bathroom last summer to help with the moisture but that never happened. I also beleive the floor under the tub may go before long because of all the water that seeps down when we shower. The frig that never worked is in our unsafe shed to this day, they have yet to pick that up. Theres a pipe under the kitchen sink we have to constantly fix because it burst's out water every so often soaking up the kitchen. Theres a tree directly in our backyard that is so rotted I bet on the next wind storm we may see that on top of the house.
Have I reported any of this? Since the day I moved in. I even have a copy of the certified letter I sent them. LaProperties response is were living in what we pay for... 450 a month we basically deserve this house. I have the original lease that states they are suppose to supply working appliances and upkeep the trees and house liveable.
I'v called the health department on them, newspapers and even lawyers (which there are no lawyers in this county that handle this type of case is what I'm told.) Receiving no help I am here in hopes someone can help us. This has caused us a huge amount of depression. We are unable to move because were tapped out of funds thanks to the huge utility bills this place has caused and maintence they we should have not had to pay.
I feel this place is as good as a shack. Theres nothing homey about taking a shower with water bugs or slugs that seep through the walls. I hate my 3 year old cant take a bubble bath like a normal child because I'm afraid of paint chips floating in there with her. I'd like to sue LaProperties to the full extent if anyone is willing to help me? My search will not end until I find someone... I'm past fixing this place, I want out and make sure that LAProperties doesnt do this to anyone ever again!
