I contacted my home warranty company to let them know that I did not have hot water. They assigned a plumber to come out and look at the problem. The plumber came out and said that my hot water heater had no electricity going to it. It took them another day to assign an electrician. The electrician came out and he said that the breaker had burned out and needed to be replaced. He said that it would only take maybe 10-15 minutes but that he needed authorization from the home warranty company. He ended up leaving because they would not do authorization.
It took them 2 days to decide that they were not going to cover this issue because it wasnt caused by normal wear and tear. They chose to take the word of a plumber who has NO experience in electrical work over the licensed electrician that they sent out to fix the problem. Clearly if a breaker burned out then it was due to normal wear and tear and has nothing to do with wiring.
I went 5 days without hot water simply because National Home Protection decided not to honor the original contract that stated that they would fix any electrical problems in the house that were caused by normal wear and tear.
The original contract states:
6. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
COVERED: All components and parts, including built-in exhaust fans, except:
NOT COVERED: Fixtures - Doorbells - Alarms - Intercoms - Central vacuum systems - Inadequate wiring capacity - Power failure or surge - Direct current (D.C.) wiring or components - Garage door openers.
If you want a home warranty company that will honor what it says it will do then do not use National Home Protection.
