I was having credit issues due to my separation from my husband. I had a hard time trying to find an apartment or house to rent. I ran across an ad in a local newspaper that read "Denied an apartment due to credit". This company supposedly had an answer to this problem. They use their company as the leaseholder at the aparment of your choice. You are to pay rent payments to the company along with a 20% fee each month, which made my payments $1600.00 a month. His fee was $284.00 (1339) to be paid to the rental property. There was also a $45.00 application fee, $100.00 enrollment fee and a 1 month rent security deposit all due before you move in. The total was around $2800.00. We met and signed the lease.
After about 4 months, I received a notice from the rental office stating that the rent was not paid because of a bounced check. I called Mr. Elias and he told me that one of his other clients bounced a check and it caused my rent payment to bounce as well. I was told that he will be able to cover this check along with additional fees in about two weeks.
About a week ago I received a call from the rental office stating that I will be evicted because they have not received any payments in 5 months. I tried to contact the company, but all phone numbers were disconnected. I contacted the local authorities and was told that it is nothing they can do, because it is a civil matter. I will now have to find an attorney and file a lawsuit to recover the money I am out of close to $10,000. I just recently found out about 2 other persons were involved in this situation. He never had any intention of paying, because I just found out he started a new company running the same scam.
