I had a gas leak in my house in a section of pipe leading into the two furnaces in my house. The leak (as these things usually are) was at a joint or fitting in the gas pipe. The point where two (or more) gas pipes are joined together. Because the fitting had to be replaced, all the pipes attached to the fitting had to be replaced as well.
I'm not sure what the technician (plumber) told national home protection but they consider the 10 pipes connected (downstream) from the fitting to be an obstruction and won't cover the repair.
The contract clearly says that NHP will provide coverage for access through unobstructed WALLS, CEILINGS or FLOORS. The walls, ceilings and floors are unobstructed. Nothing is blocking them from accessing the pipes or the source of the leak. NOTHING.
And I'm not sure how Pipes in a plumbing system that are connected to the fitting being replaced count as an obsruction since they are PART OF THE PLUMBING SYSTEM.
Really, I believe they simply do NOT want to pay for the cost of replacing the pipes attached to the fitting. And they are using the "obstruction" excuse as a way of getting out of it.
I have had other problems with this company (and I have only been with them for TWO MONTHS) so I have cancelled my account.
I want to get the word out that, if you use national home protection, CANCEL. They suck. I got a home warranty specifically for emergency repairs like this and they refuse to cover the repair.
If you know someone who wants a home warranty, tell them to stay FAR AWAY from National Home Protection.
