Ripoff of Sears Holding Corp.'s Repair Policy

My name is Sandra and I been a Sears client for more than 40 years.

Recently my husband and I purchased a Condo in Brigantine Island, NJ. We decided the Condo needed an upgrade re: new Washer/Dryer combo. We did not hesitate and went directly to Sears even though many other facilities had similar machines.

On or about June our new machine arrived. Originally the Dryer portion of the Combo did not work properly and after many attempts, Sears did replace it in May or June.

The unit worked for a short while and then the Washer portion seemed to have problems in the Spin Cycle. It always seemed to be off balance. Since your machine has an automatic locking system, I could not open it up and redistribute the wash load.

Because of all my problems with the dryer portion, I endured the tilt problem. As I stated before, we only spend summer weekends at the property and do very little laundry. When we returned to the shore this season (May / June), the problem was no better, in fact now it also started leaking when we washed in the spin cycle.

I immediately called Sears Service and a technician came out. He told me it needed nearly $300.00 worth of parts and labor. We ordered the parts and it took almost two weeks to have them come from UPS. We needed to return to Brigantine to sign for the parts.

We scheduled a technician to fix the machine on Friday, June 23. We were told they would come between 8AM and 5PM. We took off from work and once again sat in our Condo waiting for the serviceman. At 4PM, we received a call stating they would be unable to come that Day. I was very upset and after several calls to various departments, we were told someone would come Saturday June 24th.

The technician arrived quite frustrated that he was working on Saturday. He proceeded to take the machine apart and finally fixed it. All the time unhappy he choose to work overtime.

He replaced the broken parts. He explained that a bolt and screw holding the under basket had broken off. This caused the basket to drop and the seal and trion to break.

We believe this cycle of events are due to the manufacturer's assembly problem. I feel that Sears should assume all or part of the costs since the machine was fraudently put together.

My out of pocket costs are over $300.00.

Sear completly IGNORED this complaint.
