Hired Mica By Design to Custom build & install my kitchen. Priced at almost $18,000.00. THEY ARE PAID IN FULL-
Specifications & measurement of the kitchen were provided to Mica By Design during my renovations. And during the renovations; they had my contractor/carpenter change walls and soffits to accommodate their design measurements to accomodate (which ended up being wrong) They would not start the production of the cabinets until my walls & floors were in place, ensuring me that the cabinets would fit to the measurements.
Installation was started on March 2nd 2006. Not only were the installed cabinets not in line or level, but due to their incompetance, I have a 2 1/2" gap (Scribe) between cabinets (not at the end but in the middle-which looks ridiculous)-
The cabinet over my Over the Range Microwave is too large causing the distance between my Microwave & Stove to be 13 1/2" (So when I cook with a large pot - I burn my hand) (I have spoken to both my Stove & Microwave company) and they said a safe distance is a minimum of 15" but 20" or more is preferable.
I have seams that are raised, and am concerned about the mica peeling.in addition; I have draws that do not close and are rough and shelves that are wobbly and do not stay in place. They started to install the under the cabinet lighting and realized they did not know what they were doing; boring holes into my cabinets. I now have big holes in the bottom of my cabinets with no lights and do not know if they can be installed now the way they had intented them to be.
I was charged for items that were not done and charged for materials, I was not supplied. I have contacted the Nassau County Consumer Affairs and was told that I would probably need to go to court. I have contacted another contractor to see if I can have the work corrected and was told that the Mica color that was used is no longer available making correction of these problems difficut and that I would probably have to have the entire kitchen taken out and redone. I have been living without my kitchen for the past 4 months. I have made Numerous attempts to contact Mica by Design by phone & fax. I was told by them that "They are satisfied with the work" when I express my dissatification. Please help me.
