I contacted this electrics company to install 3 ceiling fans, switch one ceiling fan to a different location and install a chandalier in its previous location and to install a wall outlet where there wasn't one originally. I explained all of this to the person I spoke with on the phone. I was told "oh 500$ max. That job won't take 3-4 hours". Perhaps being vulnerable or naive, I believed him and booked a date.
The young man showed up at my house on the day. It took him 8 and a half hours and he had to run to Lowe's once and we had to run to Lowe's once to get him materials b/c he didn't come prepared to do the job. It cost $1200!!! If it truly was a 1200.00 job that would have been fine. But, to say "oh, $500 max" is one of the sloppiest estimates I've even seen.
Additionally, he left the most horrible mess in my house. My bed was covered in insulation. When I called to complain about the price, etc. The next day, the person I spoke with was like "well, do you want me to send someone to clean it up?" No! Did you think I slept in a dirty bed covered in insulation? No, I cleaned it already. His basic response was along the lines of 'what do you want me to do about it then.' He did promise to refund $138 for the two trips to Lowe's. I'm not holding my breath waiting for that check though.
He said "why didn't you get a visual and written estimate", which I should have done. I told him that no one suggested I should and I believed the person I spoke with. He said "well, it isn't our responsibility to get you to get us to come out there and look at the job." I responded with "well, don't you think it might be prudent customer service to suggest such a service to avoid hard feelings and any potential problems out of your work and poor references to customer friends and family?"
Frankly, he just didn't care.
