First of all, we signed our contract in June. It took until October for construction to begin. The sales group had no clue about the county requirements for obtaining building permits and therefore took 4 months to obtain these permits. I have had to do so much of the leg work myself to get to the point that we are. We were told in July to go ahead and clear the lot of all vegetation. We did this by renting a sod cutter from Home Depot, working two straight days in the hot Tennessee weather and cleared the lot. Now of course anyone that has any sense would know that the grass is going to grow back, and because these people couldn't see past their office doors and are so worried about getting MORE MORE MORE sales that they don't take care of the ones they have already screwed into a contract, the grass grew back.
During the last week of October, the guys showed up to dig and pour our footers. Because there was vegetation on the site, Joe the Construction Manager at the time told them to scrap it and then turned around and sent us the bill wanting $100 to pay for the scraping. We had no other choice but to pay it because the guys would not come back and finish the footers until we did.
Okay, so the footers are poured and the trusses show up. Some of which are broken. They finally get the rest of the lumber out there and the framers show up. These guys work for a few days and then run out of the much needed lumber. This is now Thanksgiving and of course, Joe the construction Manager is no where to be found. It was later that week that we found out that he quit and was to never be heard from again.
December rolls around and we are now dealing with who we are told is the Divisional Construction Manager and he tells us that he is in the process of trying to fill Joe's spot, but assured me our house would continue on track. WHAT A LIE!
Okay, so now they have a guy "filling" in from Arkansas. He is a really great guy. And seems to really know what he is talking about.in the meantime, our framers have walked off of the job because they say they have not been paid as they should and they are pretty much tired of dealing with all of it. He tells me today, January 9 that they are in the processing of obtaining written permission from the Engineer that designed the trusses so that they can be repaired and used. We have been in the process of trying to find our own framers. But decided just today that I can't afford to get my friends/family involved in something that is going to screw them up.
The framer told me this morning that Jim Walter Homes pays their contractors really bad. He says that their prices are from the 80's. He told me that they won't be able to find another group of framers because of the pay issue.
I called the Tampa office this morning asking to speak with the next person up the ladder. I have been given a name, and was told that a message would be sent to his office and that I should hear from him within 48 hours. I told the girl on the phone that I want to be contacted TODAY or else I will go to the local media and or an attorney. My employer provides legal service for all employees. And I have yet to have to use it. But it is not something that I'm afraid to do. Of course, she is trained in a call center just like I am. And we are all taught to APOLOGIZE, APOLOGIZE, APOLOGIZE.
If there is anyone out there that can give me advice and assistance. I would be more than willing to take anything I can get.
