Shut the furnace off on my wife indicating the heat exchange needed replaced for $1850. No it did not! Ripoff

Equitable Heating & Air Conditioning came to my residence on 10/19/05 to service the furnace. While I was at work Serviceman Keith checked our furnace. He told my wife that he had to turn off the furnace because there was a very dangerous situation. There were cracks in the heat exchanger he claimed. He poured water on an exposed area of the heat exchange still attached to the furnace, and said "Can you see those bubbles? That means there is a crack." She did not see any bubbles.in the paperwork he states there are cracks in the exchange, and it will cost $1850 to replace. He could not turn the furnace back on until this was replaced. She told Keith that she needed to call her husband (me). When she got me on the line, he would not talk to me because he was working on the furnace supposedly. I wanted to tell him we have a CO2 detector in the house, and it has never registered any CO2 problems. He then turned the furnace back on and told my wife to call immeadiately tomorrow because he could get in trouble if there is a CO2 build up. He left without servicing the furnace, even though my wife paid him $82.50 cash to do so. I called my father who worked for a gas company for 21 years and my wife told him what transpired. He said that you could not tell if there was cracks in the heat exchange in the manner demonstrated by Keith. The next day an Equitable representative left a message on our answering machine to see when they could replace the heat exchange. Another company was contacted and they came to service the furnace for $130.00 1 week later. They confirmed that the furnace was not serviced and there was nothing wrong with the heat exchange. I'm contacting Equitable for my money back and reporting them to you and the Better Business Bureau. From what I've been told there are several claims against them as it is. We recently moved to this residence and were given this company's name by our elderly next store neighbor. I just hope they haven't been selling her things she doesn't need. How many other people have been taken advantage of?
