I purchased a home April in which the seller had purchased this home warranty that had been transferred to me upon sale of the home. I recently discovered that the blower motor was nonfunctioning in my frontroom wall furnace and called Home Warranty of America to file a claim.
I should have known something was suspicious when the customer service rep began asking me very particular questions about usage of the heater and if I had used it before. I told him this was the first time this season that I had tried it. The sales rep Miguel must have documented on October 31 that I told him I had never used the heater. I was perplexed to his form of questioning and should of realized then, that Home Warranty of America was setting me up for an ambush.
On November 04 Core Mechanical, the contractor for HWA arrived at my house to service the heater and like reading off a script, upon looking at the unit exclaimed, "this hasn't been properly maintained." The serviceman then left w / my blower and returned ten minutes later to tell me that hwa was denying my claim because they don't cover ductless heaters.
I immediately picked up the phone to voice my disapproval and contest. First the customer rep. Repeated what the contractor had stated as far as reason for denying the claim. Supposedly they believed this was a secondary form of heat for my house. When I announced to him that this was my primary source of heat he stated as if he was reading off a list, that the unit according to the contractor wasn't properly maintained, and that was why they were denying the claim.
I still argued explaining that the heaters were serviced and cleaned and in working order when I bought the house seven months earlier. He then went on to his final excuse and stated they couldn't cover it because according to me I had never used the heater. I explained that he was mistaken, to no avail, claim denied, no heat. When supervisor Michele Clexton finally returned my calls six hours later she also could not be swayed into being fair and honest and also denied the claim.in addition, she stated she was suspendeing my account because I refused to pay the chronie contractor that works for HWA a $89.00 fee for their service call.
What a scam is all I can say, I am totally disgusted as to how a company such as HWA can be allowed to do business in this country and truly victimize customers and commit crime. Forget about "wiseguys"... This is organized crime in its truest form.
