I attend graduate school at Texas Tech University, Lubbock Texas. There is a delapidated, 30-year old, off-campus, private dormitory/apartment building called the University Plaza (or UP Plaza). The "UP" stands for "up-yours customer, we just screwed you out of your money".
Fall November, it's cold, like down to 18 degrees for several "cold front" throughout the month, finally, it snows on Nov. 28th or so, management, after dozens of complaints, finally turns the heat on by about Dec 1st or 2nd.
Early November, I inquire about the lack of heat. They suggest I buy a space heater. (Note: I'm paying them rent money for heat.)
At the beginning of every semester thieves (townies, white-trash, street people) break into everyone's cars in the underground parking garages. They never seem to get caught and the thefts happen with regularity every semester.
The place charges about $400 bucks per month. I cannot see how they are providing $400 worth of quality services. I think they are making a huge profit margin, like 30-40% on their investment. It amounts to student gouging because they are right across the street from campus. The location provides them with fresh unsuspecting students at the start of each semester.
I thing the owners and managment are a bunch of manipulating, lying, thieving white-trash and I would not want anyone to else to get victimized by them, so don't ever live there. If you know anyone who will be going to Texas Tech University please warn them about the University Plaza, it is a rip-off. They will be very sorry if the make the mistake of living there.
