On Feb 9 I had a lock cylinder re-coded for my 20-year old American van. To their credit they performed the service promptly, finishing in about 5 minutes. I caught them when they weren't busy (now I know why...)
After the locksmith finished the work he handed the cylinder back to me over the counter and said: "That'll be $35." I was in shock. I've used locksmiths in the past and this sounded extremely high. The new lock cylinder only cost me $28 from the dealer.
I was honorable and grudgingly paid but checked out other locksmiths afterwards and found that the same service typically runs between $8 and $17. I was ripped off.
Fair warning to any residents of Simi Valley needing a locksmith. Avoid A-1 like the plague. Your bank account and family will thank you.
