Calminn Exterior Company - Young K Construction
Calminn Exterior Company DBA Young K Construction rip-off! Does not fulfill contract obligations, no insurance, takes the money & runs!

Simon Kim & Edward Kim are the owners. They showed us false proof of Workers Comp insurance and liability insurance. They collected 96% of monies toward completetion of our home remodel yet, only performed 45-55% of the work.

Their standard operating procedure is, they tie the payment schedule to inspections. They collect the largest lump sum payment when the outside of the home is being stucco'd and tell the homeowner that all of the finish work will be completed as soon as the stucco is done.

In our case, we had incomplete electrical with bare, live wires everywhere, very little plumbing, an incomplete and leaking roof, missing doors, etc... So our home was virtually uninhabitable. Then they presented us with a bill for supposed extras to the job that totalled more than 17% of the original contract. They refused to go any further without payment in full of the demanded extra dollars. The description of the items were all part of the original contract and clearly shown on the drawings, contract and preconstruction meeting agreements.

In leaving the home in an unlivable situation, they assume that the homeowner has no choice but to pay them to complete the work as per the original contract. Basically, they hold the house hostage.

It was at this point in our relationship that I began to check them out in detail and found that they usually do this type of thing to immigrant homeowners who cannot easily defend themselves and, they did not have any insurance even though they presented themselves as an insured contractor. They did have a bond and we have filed for it however, the process is a lengthy one and only covers about 25% of the additional costs that we have incurred.
