We wanted a contract, the builder did not (now I know why). We were supposed to move in to a completed home in the 1st week of August and are still living in an incomplete house now (April 23). The builder has placed a lein on our home for 50k and has not completed the work still to be done.
We have no fireplace, no deck or even footings for that mater, the stone work on the exterior still needs to be done (on the lower facade of the house and on the chimney), need fill to bring the property up to grade, Need more stone so that I can get into my garage (that is labeled "unusable" by the inspector, 10 hugh trees still supposed to be removed, and they are very clearly marked with a white spraypainted band around them so he could tell. One is even in the way of the deck going up.
Then there is the topsoil to be added seed to go in for grass (the budget supposedly allowed for 3k in landscaping), His guys framed the interior doors in the upstairs too low so we had to fill in the gaps with additional wood and sheetrock now need to fill in with spackel and repaint whole upstairs. He did not even install the railings.
We waited and waited for his guy to come and kept being put off until the day the friday before we had to go to court due to living in a house without a co. We finally ended up installing the railings ourselves. He did not even have to do the interior finish work in the house. We did all Electrical, plumbing and heating on our own too. So what does this man expect me to pay him for???
I just want the lein off of my house so that I can complete my financing and finish the house on our own. I want the contractor to go away! But, I know he is also building several other homes in my community and I do not want to see this happen to anyone else.
