I am a contractor in massachusetts and was hired by a home owner to estimate what it would cost to replace his garage that collapsed due to an unsually large snowfall we had 2 winters ago. My price was accepted by his insurance company and they sent the homeowner a check for the full amount of the replacement cost. I was hired and immediatly started the work. The problem arose when midland tricked the homeowner into endorsing the check and sending it to them. They said this is standard procedure. I attained all the appropriate permits, demolished the old building had the lot surveyed and poured a new foundation. Midland refuses to release the funds to pay for this work. I have fought with them on the phone on the owners behalf for months and they still refuse to pay. The contract I have is between me and the homeowner not between me and the bank. I feel bad for the homeowner because his loan is in good standing they just are steeling his money and he is paying interest on it. The worst part is my only recourse will be to lean his house and bring him to court for payment as the contract is not between me and midland. The government has hundreds of complaints against these thiefs and due nothing. It makes me sick, charlie worcester massachusetts
