Plastic cover broke!

The rear plastic cover of the LCD round the handles began breaking a few weeks after I bought the equipment. It's getting worse each day. I named HP customer support but I had been informed that I'd to pay for over $600 to displace the LCD, despite the fact that this really is obviously a design movement.
