Sandisk complaints: warranty claims, returns, support numbers and firmware (checked October 16, 2026)
This page is about Sandisk Corporation (Nasdaq: SNDK) of Milpitas, California, which sells SanDisk-branded memory cards, USB flash drives and portable and internal SSDs, and WD and WD_BLACK flash products. Its 10-K says that until February 21, 2025 it was wholly owned by Western Digital Corporation. Hard disk drives are handled by Western Digital, which has its own page on this site; Sandisk's Support FAQ says warranty claims for HDDs and platform products from the SanDisk Professional, Western Digital, WD, WD_BLACK and G-Technology brands go through Western Digital Support.
Warranty claim for a card, USB drive or SSD. Sandisk's Support FAQ says warranty claims for flash products from the SanDisk, SanDisk Professional, Western Digital, WD and WD_BLACK brands go through a Sandisk Support account: sign in, select the registered product, then choose 'Request Warranty Replacement' (if the product is not registered yet, 'Register a New Product'). Sandisk's Support FAQ says all warranty claims for hard disk drives and platform products from those brands, including SanDisk Professional and G-Technology, are submitted through Western Digital Support instead. The status of a request is checked in the same account under 'Warranty Replacement Status'. The warranty text also names [email protected] and 'the telephone number in the table' for claims; the contact block next to the serial-number check lists 949-672-7000 for SanDisk Technologies, Inc., 951 Sandisk Drive, Milpitas, and the text says the warranty expiration can be checked (serial number required) at support-en.sandisk.com. The text also asks for proof of purchase (date and place of purchase, name of the reseller) and the product name, type and number. A Return Material Authorization number is obtained before returning the product.
What the warranty text says it covers and excludes. The Americas (English) warranty says the warranty period is set by product model (see the product page, the documentation or support) and runs 'commencing on the date of purchase'; it states 'This warranty is provided only to You and is not transferable' and 'This warranty is conditioned upon the return of the Product. SanDisk is not responsible for any Product lost or damaged during shipping.' For solid state drives it says the limited warranty period 'expires at the earlier of: (a) the term of your warranty period; or (b) when the SSD exceeds its endurance limit(s) (see SSD specifications)'. It promises the product will be free from material defects, conform to published specifications and be fit for normal use. It says Sandisk may repair or replace the product with a new, reconditioned or refurbished product of equal or greater capacity, or refund the current market value if it cannot repair or replace. It says Sandisk will not be liable for indirect or consequential damage 'including loss of data', that its entire liability 'will never exceed the price you paid for it, plus the necessary costs you made for the warranty claim', and that uses such as video surveillance, dashboard cameras and continuous data logging are excluded (the text says exclusions (ii)-(vii) do not apply to 'select Sandisk Endurance products'). It also says: 'United States consumers only: SanDisk will not provide any support for any SanDisk products that SanDisk Technologies, Inc. has not imported into the United States and sold through its authorized channels.' California consumers have a separate paragraph on returning the product to a retail store that sells the same type.
Returns and cancellations. Per the Return Policy page, the online store accepts returns within 30 days of shipment; the return number is valid for 10 days; items must be as-new in original or similar packaging; products bought from an authorized reseller go back to that reseller under its terms. For cancellations the page says 'in most cases, we are unable to cancel an order once it is processed for shipment', and refunds take 7-10 business days after the items are received; shipping and handling is in most cases not refunded.
Phone, chat and email. The Consumer Product Support page lists United States English phone support at 1-866-726-3475 and 1-844-711-2806 (Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM PST), a Spanish line at +1 4088894770 (Monday-Friday, 6AM-3PM PST), and offers chat and an email form. Store orders have a separate 'Online Store Support' route on the Contact Support page.
Portable SSD disconnect firmware. Sandisk's firmware page says a firmware issue can cause the SANDISK Extreme Portable SSD E61, SANDISK Extreme PRO Portable SSD E81 and WD My Passport SSD to 'unexpectedly disconnect from a computer', and provides a firmware updater tool for Windows and macOS with a serial-number check. The firmware page's FAQ answers 'Can I get a replacement SSD?' with: 'The firmware update is the fastest way to address and resolve any concerns about this issue. If you have any trouble accessing the firmware update, please contact our customer support team'. The court order described in the litigation section records that defendants offered refunds and data recovery services to users who asked. The related class action is described in the litigation section.
Other routes. Complaints can also be filed with the BBB (see the complaint record section) and with a state attorney general; those agencies' current instructions were not reviewed for this profile.
Regulator matters
Product recalls. A query of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall database interface (saferproducts.gov, recall service) run on October 16, 2026 returned zero results for 'SanDisk' searched by recall title, product name, manufacturer and recall description. In the class action described below, the court's order records that Western Digital approved a stop-ship of only some of the affected SSDs (the 4TB Extreme and Extreme Pro) in February 2023 and that 'No further stop ships were issued, nor any recalls.'
Not checked. Federal Trade Commission, state attorney general and other agency enforcement databases were not successfully searched for this profile (the FTC site search could not be used), so no statement is made about them. No regulator order against Sandisk Corporation is described on this page.
Sandisk Corporation: who it is and the 2016 and 2025 changes
Current company. The 10-K for the fiscal year ended July 3, 2026 (filed August 17, 2026) describes Sandisk as 'a leading global semiconductor memory company with more than 30 years of innovation in NAND flash technology', with about 11,100 employees across 33 countries. Its principal executive offices are at 951 Sandisk Drive, Milpitas, California 95035. The 10-K says Sandisk and Kioxia Corporation 'collaborate in the development and manufacture of flash-based memory wafers' through the Flash Ventures entities.
Earlier SanDisk Corporation. The earlier registrant of the same name filed its fiscal 2015 10-K on February 12, 2016, stating 'We were incorporated in the State of Delaware in June 1988.' Its Form 8-K of May 12, 2016 says Western Digital Technologies, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Western Digital Corporation, completed its acquisition of SanDisk Corporation that day, each share being converted into $67.50 in cash plus 0.2387 Western Digital shares, and SanDisk became a wholly-owned indirect subsidiary of Western Digital. Complaints in our archive dated 2006 to 2012 therefore concern that earlier, independent SanDisk Corporation.
Separation in 2025. The current Sandisk 10-K says: 'As of February 21, 2025, we separated from WDC (the separation) and became a standalone publicly traded company, trading under the stock symbol SNDK.' Sandisk's own Separation FAQ states 'On February 24th, 2025, Sandisk officially completed its separation from Western Digital'; the two company documents give different dates (February 21 and February 24, 2025). The FAQ also says WD-branded flash products 'are manufactured by Sandisk Technologies Inc. or its affiliates and distributed under license from Western Digital', and that flash support for the SanDisk, SanDisk Professional, Western Digital, WD and WD_BLACK brands is handled by Sandisk while hard-drive support is handled by Western Digital.
Legal proceedings statement. The 10-K's Item 3 says 'There are no material legal proceedings, other than ordinary routine litigation incidental to the Company'. Note 15 adds that during fiscal 2026 the company 'recognized $93 million related to legal settlements in Other income/(expense), net'; the note as read does not say which matters.
Complaint record: BBB and Trustpilot as displayed, and 12 archive complaints
BBB, as displayed on October 16, 2026 (BBB profile for SanDisk, 951 SanDisk Dr, Milpitas): not BBB Accredited; BBB Rating shown as 'Not Rated' with the reason 'The business is in the process of responding to previously closed complaints'; '71 total complaints in the last 3 years' and '26 complaints filed in the last 12 months'; reviews tab 'Average of 4 Customer Reviews' at 1 out of 5. BBB raw page data shows a file opened April 11, 2000 and a business start of June 1, 1998. BBB does not verify the accuracy of information supplied by third parties.
Trustpilot, as displayed on October 16, 2026 (business 'Sandisk', sandisk.com): 'Claimed profile - Mar 2026', 279 reviews, TrustScore 1.5; star split 5-star 11 percent, 4-star 3 percent, 3-star 3 percent, 2-star 5 percent, 1-star 78 percent. Trustpilot shows 'This company hasn't invited customers recently, so reviews may not be representative' and 'Hasn't replied to negative reviews', and says it does not fact-check reviews. The BBB and Trustpilot figures are separate sources and are not added together.
Archive complaints on this site. We link 12 approved complaints whose offender field names SanDisk, dated 2006 to 2012 and written about the earlier, independent SanDisk Corporation. They are individual accounts, not findings. By keyword match, 7 mention a mail-in rebate that the writer says was not paid or was rejected (several describe a postcard saying an original UPC was missing, or a purchase outside the qualifying period), 2 concern a warranty or replacement request (one says a replacement was sent wrong twice; one says a warranty was refused for a card bought used on eBay), and 1 says an online store order was cancelled by Sandisk and that a new order showed prices more than 200 percent higher. Sandisk's current pages reviewed here do not describe a mail-in rebate program; whether any rebate offers exist today was not checked.
Court record: the portable SSD class action
In re SanDisk SSDs Litigation, N.D. Cal., No. 3:23-cv-04152-RFL. The docket shows a complaint filed August 15, 2023 against Western Digital Technologies, Inc. The consolidated complaint, as the court's May 2026 order describes it, alleges that purchasers bought SSDs that defendants allegedly defectively designed and manufactured. Defendants named in the later docket entries are SanDisk, LLC, SanDisk Manufacturing Americas, Western Digital Corporation and Western Digital Technologies, Inc.; the defendants opposed the plaintiffs' renewed class-certification motion (Document 247).
The 'Impacted Drives' in the court's definition are the 4TB Western Digital My Passport Portable SSD, the 4TB SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD and the 1TB, 2TB and 4TB SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD. Per the order, customers reported that drives would not mount and that data was corrupt or missing; defendants identified a firmware issue tied to the power-saving design, released a firmware fix for unsold units on March 15, 2023, published a customer firmware update with a serial-number lookup in mid-2023, and made support, refunds and data recovery services available to users who asked. The order says defendants conceded there may have been 69,173 Impacted Drives in the United States.
Rulings. By order signed May 5, 2026 (entered May 6, Document 236) the court granted class certification in part: a California class (residents who purchased an Impacted Drive since 2020) on certain consumer-protection claims to the extent based on alleged deceptive omissions and on implied warranty, fraud by omission and unjust enrichment claims, and a Florida class on Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act claims to the extent based on alleged deceptive omissions. A New York class and a nationwide class were not certified, and the court declined to certify an injunctive-relief class under Rule 23(b)(2). On July 13, 2026 (Document 250) the court denied plaintiffs' renewed motion for an injunctive-relief class. An August 3, 2026 scheduling order (Document 252) sets plaintiffs' merits expert reports for November 3, 2026, dispositive motions for June 9, 2027 and a bench trial for January 3, 2028. The order appointed Silver Golub & Teitell LLP and Bursor & Fisher, P.A. as class counsel. Plaintiffs filed a Second Amended Consolidated Complaint on May 20, 2026 (Document 240), and the minute entry of May 27, 2026 (Document 243) records the case as referred to Private ADR; the August 3 schedule lists a joint letter naming the mediator and mediation date due January 20, 2027 and an April 21, 2027 deadline to refer the case to Private ADR. Certification is not a finding that the allegations are true; no judgment on the merits has been entered on the docket entries reviewed. No settlement, class notice or claims process appears on the docket entries reviewed on October 16, 2026.
Other dockets. A CourtListener search by the name 'sandisk' also returns patent and commercial dockets in which Sandisk is a party (for example MonolithIC 3D Inc. v. Sandisk Corporation, D. Del. No. 1:26-cv-00693, filed June 12, 2026); these are business disputes and are not summarized.
Is Sandisk Legitimate?
Sandisk Corporation is an SEC registrant (CIK 2023554) with its principal executive offices at 951 Sandisk Drive, Milpitas, California, listed on Nasdaq as SNDK, and it files annual and quarterly reports. Its website sandisk.com publishes warranty, return and phone-support pages, and the BBB lists the same Milpitas address. Counterfeit memory cards exist in the market generally; Sandisk's Separation FAQ tells customers to buy from 'our official Sandisk store, authorized retailers and channel partners, and verified e-commerce platforms'. The company's documents show the 2025 separation and its relationships; complaints and the class action described above are allegations and rulings on those allegations, not findings that the products are defective.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Sandisk the same company as Western Digital?
Sandisk Corporation is a separate publicly traded company. Its 10-K says it was wholly owned by Western Digital Corporation until February 21, 2025, when it separated and began trading as SNDK; Sandisk's Separation FAQ gives February 24, 2025 for the completion. Western Digital sells hard drives; Sandisk handles flash support for SanDisk, WD and WD_BLACK flash products.
How do I make a Sandisk warranty claim?
Sandisk's Support FAQ says claims for flash products go through a Sandisk Support account: sign in, select the registered product and choose 'Request Warranty Replacement'. The warranty text also lists [email protected] and a telephone number, and asks for proof of purchase (date, place, reseller) and the product details; a Return Material Authorization number is obtained before returning the product.
What does the Sandisk warranty not cover?
The Americas (English) warranty text excludes damage from improper use, installation or repair, and uses such as video-surveillance, dashboard-camera and continuous-recording or data-logging uses (the text says the exclusions in points (ii)-(vii) do not apply to select Sandisk Endurance products), and says Sandisk's entire liability 'will never exceed the price you paid for it, plus the necessary costs you made for the warranty claim'. The text adds that the warranty is not transferable and that SSD coverage ends at the earlier of the warranty term or when the SSD exceeds its endurance limit(s). For U.S. consumers it says Sandisk will not support products that SanDisk Technologies, Inc. has not imported into the United States and sold through authorized channels.
Can I return a SanDisk card or SSD bought from a store or Amazon?
Sandisk's Return Policy says only products purchased online directly from Sandisk can be returned to Sandisk (within 30 days of shipment, as-new condition). Products bought from an authorized reseller must be returned to the reseller under its terms. Warranty claims for defective products are a separate route through Sandisk Support.
What happened with the SanDisk Extreme portable SSD failures?
Sandisk's firmware page says a firmware issue can cause the SANDISK Extreme Portable SSD E61, Extreme PRO Portable SSD E81 and WD My Passport SSD to unexpectedly disconnect, and offers an updater and serial lookup. A class action, In re SanDisk SSDs Litigation (N.D. Cal. 3:23-cv-04152-RFL), alleges defects in specific 2020-era models; the court certified California and Florida classes on certain omission-based claims on May 5, 2026 and denied a renewed injunctive-class motion on July 13, 2026. The merits are undecided.
Do the 2006 to 2012 rebate complaints describe Sandisk today?
The 12 archive complaints linked here date from 2006 to 2012 and were written about the earlier SanDisk Corporation, which Western Digital Technologies acquired on May 12, 2016. Seven mention an unpaid or rejected mail-in rebate. The current Sandisk pages reviewed for this profile do not describe a mail-in rebate program, and whether any rebate offers exist today was not checked.
What do BBB and Trustpilot show for Sandisk?
As displayed on October 16, 2026: the BBB profile for SanDisk in Milpitas is not BBB Accredited, shows 'Not Rated', 71 complaints in the last 3 years, 26 in the last 12 months and an average of 4 reviews at 1 out of 5. Trustpilot shows a claimed profile with 279 reviews and a TrustScore of 1.5, with a notice that reviews may not be representative. The figures are separate and are not combined.
What phone numbers does Sandisk publish for U.S. support?
Sandisk's Consumer Product Support page lists two English numbers for the United States, 1-866-726-3475 and 1-844-711-2806, Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM PST, plus chat and an email form. The number (408) 801-1000 is listed on the BBB profile and in the SEC record as the company's business phone.
Has Sandisk issued a product recall?
A search of the CPSC recall database interface on October 16, 2026 for 'SanDisk' by title, product, manufacturer and description returned no results. The court order in the portable SSD case records that no recalls were issued for those drives; this check does not cover recalls outside the CPSC database.
