This all started June 13 when I was in the hospital. My husband went over to a friends to drop some things off then headed back to the hospital to pick me up. Upon leaving he was exiting an alley way. There was an illegally parked van that blocked the view of cars driving up and down the street. My husband inched out to look around the van. As he inched and stopped a car that was driving real close to the edge of the road slammed into the front corner of our suv. Now remember my husband was stopped.
The police were called, they never took a report while my husband or the lady was there. The police officer agreed that the van was parked illegally. The lady said she was fine, her car was towed to her home. My husband exchanged insurance info with her and he left to come pick me up.
We called Progressive the next day and they met up with us to take photos and estimates of the damage. We had a $500 deductable and they quoted that the damage was alot less than that. Go figure!
Come to find out, the claim rep with Progressive talked to the police station and the story now on the accident is that my husband was at fault and knew he was at fault. So they went ahead and paid $900 for car damage and another $500 to $700 for bodily injury. Now we feel that was a total rip off on not only Progressive but the woman too. She told my husband that she was fine and not to worry. She was this old lady driving a Dodge Neon. What makes us angry is that everytime we would call Progressive or stop into their office we were treated like we were nothing. They were so rude and most the time would ignore us knowing we needed to talk to someone about our insurance.
The other complaint is that even before the accident we were noticing premiums going higher and higher. Some of the excuses we got was "oh its a change that we need to do from time to time, like inflation", or "we put you with another carrier because we didn't receive your opt out form" oh and this one "your credit wasn't that good so we had to adjust it." I didn't know they can do that by basing it off your credit.
We have now learned of a class action law suit and bet us we jumped in on that one. When we called them to cancel our insurance they didn't care and said we still owed them money. How so when the premium wasn't due for another 3 weeks. We don't recommend Progressive at all. We had them for about 2 yrs and had nothing but problems. We are now with a company that we had once before. At least they have done everything to make sure we have no troubles.
Watch out for the scams Progressive trys to use on people especially if they have an accident and its not their fault.
