Euromotorhome Espa
A, SL Deposit Scam, Shoddy Vehicle Maintenance Madrid

This company, represented in Madrid by Luis Miguel Gonzalez, appears at first glance to operate legitimately. They charge what seems initially like a reasonable deposit of 600 Euros (about $750 US Cy at the time of this writing) to cover any damages to their camper vans. Once you return the vans however they will claim any minor issue as an excuse to never return a dime of your money!

The vans they provide seem well maintained but once you are on the road the problems begin popping up with frequency. We had a sink that wouldn't drain, an antennae that was held on by super glue, a bed that had a support leg held in place by epoxy gum and an upper berth that had a tendency to crash downward. When we called the rental office to report these issues we were summarily dismissed by Mr. Gonzalez with a "fix it yourself with superglue"!

My problem was a minor tear (about 2 inches in an "L" shape) to a canvas awning/tent wall that was caused by faulty maintenance to some exposed metal flange tabs. The upper berth was supported by these metal flanges that were supposed to be covered by rubber protectors that shielded the canvass from tearing as it was opened.

The problem was that the upper berth/bed had fallen in the past and stripped off some of these rubber protectors. I was never advised about this issue when I picked up the camper. Once, as I opened the awning/tent, the bare metal hooked the canvass and caused a small tear (2 inch). We repaired the damage quite thoroughly, along with other damages in the van before returning it to the base garage.

When we returned the camper van there was no one from administration to speak with about the problems we had encountered nor issue paperwork, just the shop's utility man/driver. He emphatically stated that our repair job was better than they themselves could have done.

Now they are claiming (through their booking agent) the need to replace the entire canvass and keep all or deposit money. Keep in mind that this is a rental vehicle already 3-4 years old with over 60,000km. A small professional repair could surely have been made for under 100 Euros by placing a cloth patch over the small tear. This canvas awning already had numerous zippers, seams, screens, etc. Sewn in and one more small cloth patch would not be an eyesore.

Be aware that, should you do business with this company either directly or through an agent, they will try by any means necessary to keep as much of your good faith deposit money as possible so you should calculate this into your true, final price.
