My husband and I obtained a vehicle through E and E Auto on Pulaski Hwy about two years ago. The first vehicle we considered was a 1993 Ford Mustang. We made a down payment and scheduled a payment plan because Mr. Elsnic, the owner, finances vehicles if they fall into certain price categories.
We got the vehicle back home and it was a bit difficult to drive. The Mustang was a 4 cylinder 5-speed and we are very experienced at driving both manual and automatic vehicles, so that wasn't the problem. The vehicle didn't have good pick-up/acceleration, shifted very difficultly, and stalled often. The vehicle also didn't have a horn, so we became a bit worried that perhaps the vehicle wasn't even legally state inspected.
We called Mr. Elsnic and he said nothing was wrong with the vehicle.
We took the Mustang to a trusted mechanic and the harmonic synch was incredibly off which caused many problems with the car. Mr. Elsnic finally agreed to look at this vehicle again after we called him several times and discovered with his "own" mechanics there were indeed several things wrong.
We asked if we could consider a different vehicle because we doubted the condition and longivity of the Mustang and the owner would not refund the money we alread paid into the Mustang.
We test drove a 1991 Volkswagon Getta. It ran okay but there was no radio and no functioning air conditioning. That was fine. However, there were several shorts in the vehicle which mainly caused nuisance, such as the fasten safety belt light always flashed even with the belts fastened and the parking brake light constantly remained lit even though the parking brake was not in use. All car doors were also very difficult to open from the outside. We decided to buy this vehicle but let him know of the "malfunctions" we encountered.
Very soon after this the brakes were totally shot. The calipers and rotors had to be completely replaced as well. (With the vehicle supposedly inspected the brakes should have lasted at least 10,000 miles, and has not even driven this vehicle 1,000 miles.) Thus the brakes were not in working condition either with this car.
We notified Mr. Elsnic of this since we were still paying on this vehicle to him. He said it was out of his hands and there was nothing he could do.
After I paid the car off, which I did early, I asked him with all the trouble we have had if he could simply write a nice reference to the credit bureaus so I could have a good reflection upon my credit, to which he said no. We made every payment on time and have made double payments several times, paying the vehicle off sooner than expected.
We have had several other problems such as his offices closing early without notice when we were scheduled to drive payments to his office since he doesn't accept checks or mailed payments, only cash. Several times he asked if I really needed receipts for each payment and I replied that yes I absolutely did!
This business seems very badly run for the older vehicles financed through him. I am notifying DMV/MVA and state police that I truly believe these vehicles are lemons and not being legally inspected.
I also believe this company overcharges for the vehicles, but that is my problem as a consumer and I made a very unwise decision to buy through this shady dealer.
