About 5 years ago i had an old clunker and some friends said i should check out JD Byrider. They said the one on West Washington was open till midnight. One night after i closed i headed out there. I was very tired, was and had been in a deep depression and they saw me coming.
As soon as i walked in a tall gentleman approached me and asked "are you alright"? Is there anything i can do to help you? I said i was fine and he said just have a seat and then he left. I then spoke to a young girl, told her what i was looking for: cheap, reliable, automatic.
A little while later they take me outside and tell me the only two cars i can choose from is a little hot sports car with a 5 speed or a mercury something automatic. Well of course they had the mercury up at the door and keys in and i took it for a drive and sure, it was nice, i drove it all of 3 or 4 blocks, it was midnight and i was exhaused.
I got back and the girl had my credit report, unbelieveable and she finished the paperwork and she said i could give her a deposit, check on getting the title for my car and take a few days to think about it. If i decided not to do it of course i would get my money back. Well, of course i went back to get my money back a few days later and another lady takes me into her office and starts her sales pitch saying this and that and they other. I knew better but somehow she got me to sign that paperwork.
During the first week i had brake trouble and i called and i could PAY them to check it out and fix so i took it to a local mechanic and when he pulled the first rear wheel, the brakes just fell off. I kept my payments up for the first 3 months or so, but after the brakes it was like every day, every week it was something new. The trunk full of water, a flat tire and the jack snaps into and can't change it, the driver's seat breaks and lays on the back seat, the electric windows won't go up and it is raining, and on and on and on and i keep calling them and they just don't care.
Finally, i called them and told them i am parking it in my apartment lot and the keys will be under the floor mat, i am locking it and you had better come and get it. I did just that and i moved shortly after. Several months later i changed jobs and i had heard nothing more from them until last week when my payroll department handed me a copy of a garnishment on my pay where they are charging me more than i paid for that darn piece of junk. I knew nothing about it, heard nothing from them. How can they do this to me? What can i do? Can any help me?
