5 days after listing my car for sale on Craigslist and Cars.com, I received a call showing as 'unknown'. A guy named Matt Carter left me this message: "Hi, Im really glad I found you, my name is Matt Carter, I work for Longwood Inc, the number here is 866-326-9921, we've got some clients who are shopping for vehicles, and I'm going thru a list of vehicles like yours, I'd like to find out more about it, and tell you a little more about what we could do to help you get it sold, there is a small fee for the service, it's well worth it, I will tell you about it when you call, and do guarantee the results, so give me a call before 5 today, again my name is Matt Carter, 866-326-9921."
The statement, 'I'm really glad I found you' set off alarm bells to me. Craigslist doesn't display my phone number but Cars.com does. There's a fee to list on Cars.com so 'finding' me to offer to sell my car for 'a small fee' was a definite attempt to steal my business from Cars.com and scam me when I already paid a small fee to list my car with Cars.com that guarantees a sale in 60 days or returns the fee. So I googled 'longwood inc' and found pages and pages of scam reports exactly like or very similar to my experience. So beware. Get lost Matt!
