When this new store opened up we went there with two of our vehicles. While waiting in the lobby heard the same sales pitch several times and then had it tried on me. I am not an automotive novice as I was a fully certified general mechanic when younger. The person at the desk says. "your brake fluid is very dark and needs to be replaced". I saw this same sales pitch on almost every vehicle there no matter what the mileage or year of vehicle.
Of course this is ridiculous. Then I started to hear that our neighbors were getting their brake fluid changed for over $125 at this place. What a rip off! I spent 25 years working for three auto manufacturers and have seen it all many times before. A person on commission, over selling...
Shop/dealer owners turning a blind eye, and then counselling their service managers to raise the average repair order sales to $400 'like the other owners in my peer group'... Here is the plain and simple rule: follow the manufacturer's normal service guide. No more. NEVER change oil at 3,000 miles... It is stupid, costly and harmful to the environment, you don't need to change the filter with every oil change. These are all lube and tune myths perpetuated by writers that are not really scientifically knowledgeable.
