After experiencing transmission problems (unwanted downshifting) I brought my Mitsu. Eclipse Spyder to an Aamco near my house in Union NJ. After examining they (Warren Ross and his son) told me I needed a rebuild. I paid $2K, it took far longer than promised and when I picked it up & drove it the problem almost immediately showed itself. I was told to bring it back in and that if I brought it to their Newark location it would be faster since they had to bring it their anyway to rebuild. Again they took far longer than promised, many many excuses and when I picked up the car I experienced the same problem.
At this point I didn't want to deal with the Newark location any more so I called Aamco HQ and complained until they agreed I could bring my car to any other location. I brought it to an Aamco in Jersey City. They claimed to rebuild it but the problem persisted. I brought the car to my local mechanic, in Maplewood - and Ira diagnosed and repaired the problem: a faulty solenoid which checked out normally but failed upon heating up. I am convinced the Newark Aamco tells everyone they need a rebuild as a matter of course.
Sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company. Plus, if you post a competitors name more than likely they will show up on search engines as a Rip-off! - - your comments on this policy are welcome.
