Dealer Ripoff Lies and Fraud

I recently test drove a Toyota Camry at this dealership, and purchased the car (or so I thought). The sales person supposedly went back out to get the vehicle VIN for the paperwork... She got a VIN but not of the vehicle that I test drove. The vehicle that was test driven had a sun roof.

I signed the paperwork, and mentioned that I would not be picking up the car until the next week when someone could accompany me and they would have time to install the bug guard. First one of the sales managers wanted me to take deliver of the car that day, since I had my other car there, and I cannot drive 2 vehicles at the same time, I told him it was impossible... He suggested that someone from the dealership follow me home so both cars would end up at my house - or&take the car to the end of the dealer's driveway and come back and leave it sitting in their lot for the week.

All of this seemed rather ridiculous to me, and I told him so... This is when he became rather loud and abusive. A second sales manager came over, and finally agreed to the car being picked up the following week when I mentioned that I would take my business elsewhere... This is what I should have done!!!

When I went to pick up the car, of course the bug guard had not yet been installed, so I had to wait for an 2 hours for that to be done. They immediately wanted the money for the car without my seeing the vehicle... Later I found out exactly why. I was insulted by the F&I person, and requested that another person help me... This took another 2 hours.

When they finally had the vehicle ready for me to look at it was not in the parking lot. Another 1 hour delay. Finally I was so upset that I wanted my money back only to have them refuse this.

I finally was rushed into the vehicle and drove it to the end of the driveway and discovered that the odometer statement did not match the vehicle odometer. When I got out of the car I also discovered that the remotes did not work...

Upon returning to the showroom I was told that service was gone for the day, and I would have to come back (I had been at the dealership for 5 hours at this point). They finally found the service manager who programmed the remotes... And in the mean time I was told that the odometer did not match the odometer statement because the sales person neglected to get the reading from the car, and had made up some number to put on the paperwork... This was the biggest lie of all.

5 days later I received a message from a Sales Manager at the dealership, asking me about the VIN on the car. When I called back I was told that the car that I originally purchased had been sold to someone else, and the car that I had was a replacement. The dealer wanted to make sure that the paperwork had the correct VIN.

So not only did the sales person not write up the correct vehicle in the first place, now I did not even have that car. The car with the sun roof, that I test drove, was never written up at all because it cost more and instead of telling me that my offer was low they automatically substituted the vehicle.

I went back to the dealership in an attempt to get this resolved only to be told that I should have taken the car home the day that I purchased it.

I have purchased several vehicles in the past, and picked them up later and have never had this type of trouble. I was told that this dealer has a reputation. I would agree but if this type of business practice continues it will be anything but a good reputation.

I am unable to get the dealer to do anything to fix this situation. Without having written down the VIN of the vehicle that I test drove, something that no one even thinks to do, I am finding it very difficult to get any type of satisfaction.

The worst part of this are the lies that have been told by the dealer, and the fraud in substituting vehicles without my knowledge or consent. I should have been given the opportunity to decide whether I would accept a substitute vehicle.

I also fail to understand how a dealer can sell the same vehicle to me and then to someone else, especially when they already have signed paperwork and my check. I would think that selling a vehicle twice would be against the law.
