On Monday April 12th while searching for a local repair shop to change brake pads and rotars for my 1995 Jaguar specifically stating I needed same day service. I called many shops and Rosedale Auto Service, owner operator Greg, stated that they could do the work and to bring the car in at 8am Tuesday morning and they could have it done by the end of the day. I asked if there was a ballpark figure on work orders of this nature and he quoted $175 and $100 dollars in addition for rotars, but he would have to see the car to be specific.
The next day I dropped the car off at the shop for 8a and turned the keys over to Greg and he stated that he would give me a call. I was never asked to sign or fill out anything, nor was I informed of an inspection fee. At 1:30p I received a call from Greg stating that not only would he need to replace the break pads and rotors, but the brake hoses needed replacing as well. Greg then quoted me a price of $671 and stated that he "could not find after market parts for the rotars, break pads or brake hoses" and that he would have to order them from Jaguar and that it was too late to make the order and have the car repaired in the same day. Greg then quoted me $232 for a set of rotars not each, brake hoses $109 each and break pads at $55 a set.
I stated to Greg that I've had break work done at Jaguar amongst other services and that the parts were way too expensive. I infomed Greg that I would call him back in a 1/2 hour. I opened up the yellow pages and called several parts stores including Jaguar in Cockeysville, MD which stated that the parts were in stock. I had Jaguar to pull an old service ticket to see the details of the work. I was informed by Jaguar parts personnel, Buddy, of the following prices $232 each for rotars vs. $23-28 after market $109 ea break hose vs. $22 after market and $55 for a set of break pads.
I then called Greg back up and stated that I found the parts at Olympic, Salvo's, Papa's Auto Parts stores and they all had my rotars and brake pads, but I would have to buy the brake hoses from Jaguar. Greg then stated that he did not feel comfortable using after market parts and I said OK.
After consulting with my husband on the quote and Greg's comments, my husband called Greg and stated that he was calling regarding the Jaguar and demanded that if the after market parts were available to use them and Greg said that he would. Around 4:00p I received a call from Greg asking me to and come pickup my car and I asked why, he then stated that he did not feel comfortable repairing my car due to the conversation he had with my husband and that there would be a $20 inspection fee. I apologized to Greg for whatever my husband had said and asked if would reconsider and do the work adding that I would pay for the manufactured parts and Greg still refused. I stated that you've tied my car up all day, waited until 1:30 in afternoon to call me and stated that it was too late to order parts for today, lied about the availability of after market parts, what a coincidence you are charging $232 for a set of rotars and Jaguar's charging $232 for each, you reneged on the deal and you want me to pay you $20 for my inconvenience and stated I don't think so.
I began calling around again and found Rosedale Sunoco asking if they had same day service and if they could use after market parts and they stated they could and to bring the car in first thing in the morning. I got a ride to the place and stated that I was there to pick up the Jaguar and the receptionist, Laura, stated $20 please and I explained to her why I refused to pay the charge and asked for my keys. Laura then got Greg and they still refused to relinquish my keys. I stated to Greg that I've talked to you many times on the phone yesterday and today and not once did you mention an inspection fee, I already knew what the car needed and asked if they would call the police to intervene.
I had to finally call the police and the receptionist got irate and asked me to meet her in the parking lot to fight. Upon the arrival of the police I stated to them verbatim what happened and specifically stated that I had been verbally assaulted and threatened with physical assault by Laura. The police decided that it was a civil matter and that I had to pay the $20 and let a judge decide on my getting it back. The police stepped outside as I completed the transaction and I started towards the door, Laura came running from behind the desk and pushed my out of the door directly into one of the police officers. Obviously I looked like the aggressor I lost my balance was arrested.inspite of wittnesses on the scene stating that Laura was the aggressor and that she had shoved me, it fell on deaf ears to the police and they did absolutely nothing to Laura.
The next day I drove my car to Rosedale Sunoco, 6401 Golden Ring Road, Baltimore, MD where customer service is their goal, filled out a service ticket with my information and the owner Duncan said that he would call me with their findings and an estimate. I received a call from Duncan around 10:30a stating that they found nothing wrong with the brake hoses and quoted me a price of $325 and I stated to go ahead with the repairs. I then received another call at 2:00p stating that the car repairs were complete and that I could come pick the car up. Upon my arrival I received an invoice itemizing the repairs, cost and a statement indicating that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my brake hoses. I am very satisfied with the service I received.
I plan to take legal action against Rosedale Auto Service at 5606 Belair Rd, Baltimore and press assault charges against the receptionist seeking restitution for their wrong doing.
