I brought my Porsche 911 in for repair at Auto Atlanta in Marietta, GA and explained that the coil needed replacing. I asked Sean, the service manager, to call me with an estimate. The next day he said, "there is nothing wrong with the coil and we replaced your fuel pump but it still does not run. We need to take your engine out to determine what the problem is and because we can't reach a bolt on the car."
This would be an additional $3,500. I refused and was angry that he started work on the car without my permission. He held my car ransom so I paid the $550. However, before I left the shop, Sean informed me that the owner (George Hussey) offered $3,000 for my car "as is". What a guy! My 1984 Porsche 911 Carerra has been valued at $20,000. I told the service manager that I thought the low-ball offer was highly unethical under the circumstances.
George collects 914s so I doubt he had any real interest in keeping my car. I towed my car to a real mechanic shop where they replaced the coil, did a tune-up and got my car running in no time. Do not buy parts or take your auto to Auto Atlanta or you will be sorry. I am a member of the Porsche Club of America PCA and told the board members about this incident. I have since learned from others in the Porsche community that they all avoid George and his business. I wish I had spoken to them BEFORE I took my car to these people.
