I had financing to purchase a truck. I saw a nice truck in the truck paper advertised by Grand Rapids Truck Center in Grand Rapids, MI. I called and spoke with one of the owners, Steve, and was told that he had so many inquiries on the truck and recommended I put down $500 to hold it for 5 days so I could route myself up through Michigan to see it. I told him before I came that I wanted to have the engine, transmission, and rears checked via oil samples at a local volvo to ensure mechanical soundness. He lied and told me there was no Volvo near him and ensured me that his mechanics already tested it and it was sound. When I arrived I noticed a Volvo Dealer was located less than 2 miles from his place of business. While we talked I mentioned that I already had financing and liked the truck but that there were a few things I needed fixed before I would be willing to buy it. All this guy heard was, "I got financing." So he offered me a room for the night so we could "look over the truck" again the next day and answer all my questions. Since I had a long ride, I took him up on his offer and met him the next day.
When I arrived at the dealership he demanded to know who my financing was through and suggested I call my finance guy so we could all talk via a conference call. When we began to talk he started demanding payment on the truck. He got so unprofessional and demaning that my finance guy had to remind him that I was the customer and that they both should be working to make me happy not make him money and in order to do this he should repair the list of things that I found during our inspection before he'd pay him a dime. Steve then demanded that we close the deal before the end of the month (which ended in 1 week). I told him that I needed at least two weeks in order to schedule time to rent a car and drive back to Michigan since he was unwilling to put any gas in the truck to help me get it home. Steve then demanded that I put down another $1500 down so that he knew I was serious before he did any work. Of course it was non-refundable. The truck looked nice and as long as he kept his end of the bargain, I knew I wanted it so I did it.
When I got back to Michigan to take possession of the truck the first thing out of this guys mouth was, "Hurry up and sign the paperwork so I can get the money." I asked to look over the truck one more time to ensure he'd done everything we agreed upon and test drive it. Low and behold, the same warning light came on indicating that an inital problem that I demaned be repaired was not fixed. When I attempted to bring it to Steve's attention he became irrate with me stating that I was jerking him around, wasting his time, and that he didn't want to do business with me any more. I contacted my finance guy and told him "no deal." He called Steve back and asked him to allow me to test it at a local Volvo dealer so that we could get the problem diagnosed and corrected, and Steve refused stating that it is a used truck and is sold AS IS. Had he not lied to me initially, I would have never wasted my time going back to him and I definitely would not have put any money down. Long story short, this guy is unprofessional and money hungry. The only thing this company cares about is getting your money and not the customer at all. He knew my wife and kids came with me over 2000 miles and he refused to get us a room stating that the last time he did that for me he didn't get a sale so we spent time riding around Michigan looking for a place to spend the night.
I advise everyone to avoid this place like the plague. They are terrible and treat their customers like scum!!
