Brake Masters
Misleading Advretisment and unauthorized charges

They ran an advertisment for $48 for labor on a brake job. I called to verify that I could bring in my own pads and that they would do the work for the advertised price. I was told that that was OK.

When I got there they told me that I couldn't get the advertised price. I told them that I phoned and got an OK. One of the girls at the desk said that it wasn't worth arguing over. So I assumed that she was saying that I was getting the advertised price. They gave me no writen estimate but said that they needed to do an inspection first. It would take about 1.5 hours before they would be finished.

I went home and called them back about 2 hours later. They still hadn't gotten to my car and weren't sure when they could get to it. I ran some erands and when I got back my wife said that they had called twice since I had left. They said that I had brought in the wrong brake pads. So I went back and brought in the correct brake pads.

When they had finished I went to pay the bill. They told me that the charges were $98. I asked why it was so much. I expected it to be $48 tax. I was told that first of all the labor on brakes was $58 and that I had agreed to an additional charge of $29.99 for 'Brake Fluid Exchange'.

I told them that I expected the labor to be $48 and that I had never agreed to the 'Brake Fluid Exchange'. It turns out that the first time that they called my home and talked to my wife they told her that I needed the Brake Fluid Exchange. But my wife told me that she had never Ok'ed it.

The manager got involved and told me that regardless what the advertisment said about the labor charge for brakes they were charging me $58. He was very angy about it. He also told me that if I didn't like it he would put the old brakes back on my car. He acted like he didn't belive me when I told him that I never approved the additional service.

He finally told the girl at service desk to just charge the $48 but make a note to refuse any future service to this customer.

I was shocked that they were so rude and arrogant toward a customer. I was not rude to them. I was getting irritated that they refused to honor the advertisment and was adamant that I wouldn't pay for a service that I hadn't authorized.

Apparantly, it is their practice to get people into their business with misleading advertisments and then add unneeded services onto the bill and hope that the customer will just go along with them.
