My best friend had a car repo over 20 years ago.in the last year she has been receiving letters. I am not sure what they contained. She has a car that is paid for and has NOTHING to do with GMAC. Friday a few reps from GMAC came and took this car. They said it will go towards what she owed from TWENTY years ago. Then they notified her mother (they live together) that when her car is paid off they will be back to take her as well. Her mother was the co-signer on this from TWENTY years ago. (I keep sayiing the years that have gone by) Her mothers car will be paid off soon very soon. SO my question is how in the heck can they legally do this??? Is this even legal? If she knew I was doing this she would be mad. But I want to help them, because these cars have nothing to do with GMAC. This is like having a house repo and buying another house and having it paid off 20 years later only to be told to GET OUT cuz they are taking the house to pay for the one that was repossessed?
