I booked a car rental with hotwire for Hertz. They advertised a good rate, but it wasn't leaps better than others. Then I paid a considerable amount in taxes and fees (about 35% of the total). I was hoping this covered fees from Hertz. However Hertz then charged their own fees. So if you add the fees back into the advertised rate it's actually HIGHER than others. Very very tricky!
When I called Hotwire I asked for an itemized list of fees and taxes, they would not provide it.
Call the rental agency directly next time! Just look up the number for a specific dealership and book directly. Don't get ripped off by Hotwire.
