Complaint / Review
Lawarnce Dealer Ship
Ripoff

I had a recall on a 1994 GC Jeep for shifting problems. While there I had them check the AC for problems of not cooling. They told me it was the AC compresser and it had to be replaced. I told them to do the work and check why the compresser went bad. They replaced the compersser and charged the system, I asked for the old parts and received them. When I picked up the Jeep the low coolant light came on within a block of the service center.

I went right back and they told me just to add water when I got home which I did. The problem reoccured the next day. Returning to the dealer, they told me the stain on the manifold was oil which I questioned as I saw the leak when I refilled the radiator. I asked them to put pressure on the radiator and see where the water came from which they did and then told me I needed a thermostat, gasket and housing.

This I did not believe so I left and replaced a 5/8th heater by pass hose to solve the problem. A week later I noticed water on the passenger side of the cabin and took it back. They said thay did not do anything under the dash where a bracket was missing and on the floor and the AC quit working. They refused to do anything about it. I took the Jeep to an independent shop whom found the housing under the dash had been moved and the bracket left off causing a bad seal between the firewall and the housing allowing the moister from under the dash unit to leak on the floor instead of going outside.

Also there was a leak in a pipe under the hood which cause the freon to leak back out and the opnion of the mechanic was that caused the orginial problem. Checking the compresser removed it was determined that it was the clutch not the compresser that needed replacement and the loss of freon caused the clutch to go bad. When I confronted the dealer shop they told me that I could not contact the factory that they had a form for me to fill and they would file it.

They also gave me a number to call when I insisted I wanted one which was not a working number. The service manager told me the mechanic had over thirty years and the reason to replace the compresser was usually the bearings are bad. Usually dose not cover the fact the bearings were not bad and the $400 cost of the compresser compared to the cost of less than $100 for a clutch leaves a lot of questions about the quality of service.
