Accurate Auto -Ripoff full price, half the work, twice the time

On October 5th, I entered Accurate Auto on 66 Union Avenue. I came with the following list of repairs to be performed on my 1949 Plymouth:

Rewire entire vehicle
Fix linkage problem
Install new alternator
Replace leaf spring suspension with new leaf springs
Inspect gas tank to see if replacement is necessary
Fix passenger door and window
Adjust parking break

They assured me they could do all these things within a week, for around $1500. I was pleased and surprised at their alacrity and confidence. I put down a $500.00 deposit. I didn't think they could do these things within one week. I waited more than two weeks before calling asking when they would be done. My first call regarding the completion of the work was on Monday, October 22 and I asked for an estimate of the work done up to that point, but one wasn't given to me. I was assured, however, that the car would be finished on Wednesday, October 24.

I called Wednesday, October 24. The car was promised to me on Friday, October 26. Wayne had no estimate prepared. I asked again for an estimate.

At this point, I told them to cross the less important repairs off the list in the interest of getting my vehicle back and they agreed. Again, I asked for an estimate. One was not given to me.

I called Friday, October 26. I was told the car would definitely be ready on Tuesday, October 30. I had quit asking for estimates by this point.

I called Tuesday, October 30. I was told that I should call on Friday, November 2, at noon, when it would definitely, DEFINITELY be done.

I called Friday, November 2, at noon and was told that the finishing touches were being put on it. We should be done in about two hours. Two hours later (2 P.M.) I called back and they said it would definitely be done in an hour. According to Accurate Auto, my car was going to be definitely finished at 3:00 P.M. On Friday, November 2.
I caught a train from White Plains, New York to Ronkonkoma, New York and arrived at my destination at around 5:30 P.M., giving them a full two and a half hours extra in which to finish working on my car. It was not finished. They told me to call back the next day, Saturday, between 1:30 and 3:00 P.M. Calling at about 2:00 P.M. There was nobody there to answer. Coming to the shop at about 2:45 P.M., it was closed.

I returned to White Plains without my vehicle. I spent $24.00 on train tickets, and missed $168.00 in wages.

Another week passed. On November 9th, I paid Accurate Auto $600.00 in cash for my car.

Accurate Auto did manage to install a new alternator, spark plugs and gas hose, and shocks, but I could have done this myself and for much less than $1,100.00

Complaints on Accurate Auto: Malpractice/Shoddy Work

Not qualified to do what they said they could 1 week turned into a month and four days

Lied about completion of work; lost wages for one weekend of bartending @ $12.00/hr. For Friday and Saturday. Had me wait and call the next day between 1:30 and 3:00 P.M.By which time they had closed shop and left

Left a mess inside car wire bits, connectors, clips, etc.

Brought vehicle to them with operational hi-beam indicator, radio, 2-speed heater, temperature gauge, fuel gauge. When they had finished their work, there was no hi-beam indicator, no temperature gauge, no fuel gauge, no dome light, and the heater operated on only one speed

Accurate Auto did not provide an estimate after repeated requests

Driver's side carpet is missing

Did not replace carpet wall panel after finishing work in that area

Accurate Auto performed unauthorized repair a horn button was placed under the dash. Shocks were installed instead of leaf springs.

Some wires which I installed eight years ago are still in the vehicle. There is no telling to what degree the car has the wiring which I installed eight years ago. I was charged for a complete rewiring, but it was obviously not what I got. How much new wire actually went into that car? I can't tell.
