Elmore Toyota
Crank pulley bolt broken at 24k mi

I purchased a new 03 Toyota Tacoma Pre-Runner 2 dr. Side-step truck. On 5-13-10 it was towed to Elmore toyota. The crank shaft pulley bolt broke at 24k mi. They wanted 6k to repair stating it was out of warranty. This is an issue that should NEVER have happened at the mileage on the truck. It has original tires, brakes and everything else except for the original tank of gas. They are saying loyalty and maintence records.

We have purchased THREE brand new toyota trucks. An 02,03, and 07. I would consider that loyalty. I have ALL maintenace records. This is not a maintence part of an automobile! If this truck was driven the 10k a year as most people do, it would have happened at 2 1/2 years. At the time it was towed there we offered to but a new car from them if they would do the repairs. And the answer was NO!

Every mechanic I have spoken to has said this should of never have happened! Especially at the low mileage. Needless to say we had to have it repaired but not at toyota. My bill came to $3305.02. Toyota wouldn't even meet us half way on this repair. We have spoken to numerous people in the Toyota Company and all we have been offered is $1000.00 off the purchase of a new Toyota. Needless to say we said no. We went and bought a honda. There are no words to describe how livid we are! The auto shop who did the repair said that all the bolts were loose on the engine and must have come from the factory like that. They had never seen anything like it before. We had them take pictures of the repair in progress. The crankshaft and pulley that were taken out of the truck look like they just came out of the factory.

It now has a place in my garage, all nice and new looking. I called my insurance company to see if they could help and they did send an appraiser out to take pictures and he had never seen or heard of anything like this happening. So beware of Toyota. I love my truck and we haven't had a problem with the others but this is a fluke that Toyota should make good on. I don't know the exact amount of these trucks that were made that year but I know it was not very many. So if you are one who does not put a lot of miles or at least what is considered the usual amount DON'T buy Toyota!
