I have a 2006 Ford F-150 and had a problem with the 4 wheel drive not disengaging sometimes. Noise would occur but by the time i took it to the dealer noise stopped.in 2007 took it to dealer, explained the noise they took a look and determined the hub and bearings needed replaced (4000 miles on truck). No other problems found. Problem occurred several times over the next year but to temporarily remedy the problem i switched it to 4x4 then back to 2x4 noise usually stopped. My boss experienced the same problem and they found a fix for it. My boss called the dealership he purchased his truck from and they gave him the number of the part that was defective and said there was a bulletin out on that particular part that was malfunctioning. I then gave the number to my dealership in January (out of warranty now by two months) and they still failed to locate the problem. Finally the part failed in mid february and i left it in the failed state and took it to dealership. They were able to locate the problem this time and wouldn't you know it, it is the iwe solenoid that i gave them the number from the other dealership. However now i am out of warranty and it will be a cost to me. My truck is out of warranty by time and i know that is how warranties work however my truck has 14000 miles and has never been abused. I asked a mechanic if it was common to have to replace hub/bearings in a truck with 4000 miles and he had no answer. I then asked in his professional opinion if the iwe solenoid was malfunctioning could that cause issues with the hub/bearings he said probably not. I am no mechanic however i know that this problem has been the same problem i have had all along and want some help with getting this fixed. I hope i can get this issue resolved because it will affect whether i do business with ford again.
