Midas fraudulent ripoff business

Took my car to midas, Monday 07/07/03 to have brakes fixed and fix a problem that started on my way to midas. The car was jumping when put into drive from neutral. The mechanic, Tim, showed me the condition of the brakes and explained what needed to be done.

Tim said that the reason the car was jumping was that the rear motor mounts needed to be replaced, he did not show us this. We said to replace the mounts if it was going to fix the particular problem. $300.00,

Came back the next day to pick up the car and the car was doing the exact same thing it was doing before, jumping when put into drive, no difference. Tim said that it was the transmission mount and he would fix it for the cost of the part. $50.

Came back again a day later and there was still no change in the problem. Exactly the same. Talked to assistant manager, Dave, who stated that they would find what the problem was and fix it for no charge if we could keep the car there one more day.

Next day, Thursday, 07/10/03, Manager Dan Price, said that the problem was with the transmission and Midas does not work on transmissions. I was obviously upset at this point. I ended up paying $350 for work that did not fix the problem. Dan stated that he ran a diagnostic check. Dan gave us a number for his Buddy at Aamco and stated that we needed an entirely new transmission. I asked for the number of the district manager for midas in that area and was told that they were not allowed to give out that information.

Thursday, 07/10/03, I contacted Public relations at Midas. Talked to Dave Slattery. After several conversations with Dave, he was only willing to give me back $60 of the $350. He stated that the work was done and we should pay for it.

Monday, 07/14/03, I took my car to a different mechanic garage where they fixed the problem for $50.00. The mechanic stated that the mounts most likely did not have to be replaced. The problem did NOT end up being the transmission, it was the vacuum hose going to the map sensor. Any mechanic could have easily fixed it without running a diagnostic check.

I paid $350 for work that did not fix my problem and work that did not need to be done. I want my money back entirely. These are fraudulent or just plain ignorant business practices on behalf of Midas.

My invoice number is #0103358,07/08/03
My vehicle is a 1998 Chevy Cavalie
