I went to STS Tires and purchased 4 tires from Ed Olszewski with installation and
road hazard warrenty.
At the date of my installation appointment, I was told by Ed that "they had made a
mistake and did not have the tires I purchased available at that time.
I agreed to have another make/model tire installed and was told that "a 4 wheel
alignment check must be performed prior to the tire installation as per company
policy". I agreed to have this alignment check done and was informed by Ed that
"the front end was perfect but the rear alignment was very slightly out of spec".
I asked Ed if it was critical to align the rear at that time and was told "it is not
critical at this time but recommended I have the vehicle aligned in the near future".
In less than 6 months my new tires were trashed and needed to be replaced due to what Ed called "tire chop". When I asked what would cause this to happen to all 4 tires, I was told by Ed " we recommended an alignment when you had the tires
installed and you declined so it it you're responsabillity to pay to have 4 tires replaced.
I took issue with this since I had brought the vehicle to STS Tires more than once
to have my new tires rotated as recommended by Ed and nothing was said regarding
"tire chop" or uneven wear patterns developing.
When the road noise became unbearable from the "tire chop" that Ed spoke of, I paid
STS Tires for another set of 4 tires and told Ed "I understand you're Co. Policy in
regards to the alignment check needing to be done prior to the tire installation and
want the alignment done period after the last set lasted less than 6 months".
I left my 2006 VW Passat with Ed for the prior scheduled time and when I returned
to pick the vehicle up, I was informed by Ed that "we ran out of time and did not do
the alignment check", let alone the the actual alignment that I had requested and autherized.
Somehow STS Tires did find the time to mount and ballance my second set of 4 tires
while violating the Co. Policy that I was told was so important regarding the
alignment check.
I paid for the work that was done and was told that " I would need to make another
appointment to have the alignment done and to try not to drive the car to much in the meantime".
Now on to the second issue with STS Tires, I got a flat tire on the left front of my vehicle (due to kids letting the air out, no damage) and when I had someone try to remove the left front wheel, the wheel lock was torqued so tight that the air gun
destroyed the wheel lock key trying to remove the lock.
I spoke with Ed about this problem and when I had the tire filled with air, I took the vehicle to STS Tires right away and a mechanic tried in vain to remove the wheel lock
with the new key I purchased from VW.
I then spoke with Ed again about the store's policy regarding the use of anti-sieze
products (VW recommends using anti-sieze every time wheel bolts are removed) and
was informed by Ed that it is against STS Tires policy to use this product and then tried to show me Co. Documentation stating so but was only able to come up with a document stating "do not use lubricants", nothing about ant-sieze use.
Ed then proceeded to tell me "that it was my problem and I would have to pay to have the wheel bolt drilled out at the rate of $90.00 per hour.
There is much more that I could go into, like multiple "warning lights on the dashboard display" when I picked the vehicle up but I think this gets the point across...
