CA DMV, California DMV, Santa Clara DMV, Failure to send registration renewal, until late fees were due Mountain view

I didn't hear anything about my registration is due until I received a late notice from the DMV, complete with a nice fat penalty plus the usual registration amount. This has happened twice now and I believe it's about the extra money. And no, I did not misplace the original.

In both instances I decided to pay the exorbitant fee to avoid getting a ticket. What makes it hurt even more is that for one of the cars, I received a ticket from the time I sent in the $ until getting the sticker in the mail. It hurts.
