Talk about scams! I took my 2002 Jeep to Tire Choice in West Palm Beach to get the blend door replaced and got ripped off instead. To get to a $2 plastic part the entire dash had to come out. It took 5 days and two attempts to get it right - or so I thought. I began to think the job was too big for their mechanic. All the research I had done indicated it is a complex project and could cost hundreds of dollars to repair. But it was January and it gets cold in South Florida. I took the car home after 3 days and it still did not work. I returned it to Tire Choice and the dash came out a second time.
Seems the mechanic only replaced one blend door - not both. Cut to July - six months later. I take the car back to Tire Choice to check out the AC. I thought it needed freon. Then I noticed that no air was coming out the passenger side. Ut-oh... That's the problem I had with the blend door. Eric, the store manager, promised to look into it. About 3 hours later, I get a call and Eric says the entire AC system needs to be replaced. He said they put dye in to find the leak and found it at the seal. Cost would be about $1,000 he said.
I decide not to have it done and start shopping around. I take the car to a great little repair shop -) in Boynton Beach, and guess what... The AC is fine! They can find no trace of dye, in fact ALL of the freon had been vacuumed out! He said the problem was my blend door! It was broken and would have to be replaced. He said it was such a big job that he could not help me. I take the car back to Tire Choice and give Jeremy a copy of the report Family Automotive gave me.
He promises to take care of it since they had just replaced the blend doors in January. This was Thursday morning. I told him I had to have the car back by Friday at 5. Friday at 4 I call and get Eric. He tells me they have done nothing to my car, that the problem requires the dash to be taken out and they weren't sure if I wanted to do that. He accuses Jeremy of not following up with me because he knew I would be upset. He then proceeds to lie to me again (remember the AC?) and says it is a different problem than the one they repaired and said it was a switch that controls the blend door. I angrily express my frustration at his lack of follow up.
When I go to pick up the car, Jeremy is the only one there. He admits they should resolve the problem but can't get Eric to go along with him. I told Jeremy I don't trust his company. I reminded him that Eric lied to me about the AC and even when I showed proof of the problem he invented some other issue so he would not have to fix it! I've emailed corporate to see if they will warrant their work and resolve my dilemma! It's HOT down here!
