STS sells a turbo system package for the Dodge Ram SRT-10. They should not sell this system for the SRT-10 Ram. If fact, it should be recalled and thier customers should be refunded in full for this crap product.
My personal experience was a purchase of a $5995 intercooled, rear mount system. Complete except for the tuning (as noted on website)
Thier complete kit shipped after 4 weeks with about 4 items on back order. Which the note was convienently stuck to the bottom of the box under all of the parts and packaging materials. After the back ordered parts showed up, 2 weeks after the system shipped, i was still missing a few odds and ends that my performance shop ended up supplying.
The system was poorly made and had to be reworked and custom cut to fit into my truck. After installation, STS did not provide any indication on what was needed to complete the kit or where to get it from. I e-mailed and called irate as hell. I came to the conclusion that STS's sales person was as incompitent as sales people come. Naturally, they pointed thier fingers at my performance shop. (who have sucessfull installed STS sysems on several GM products) Finnial STS gave me 3 shops to contact for the tuning an dfuel needs. After finding out 3 places to get the fuel system and tuning from STS, i contacted all 3 of them. 2 DENIED EVER WORKING WITH AN STS SYSTEM! What a load of crap is that? The third cautioned me but said he could help.
The one that did work with STS's product said he had to refab the system and build up the motor to make it work "SAFELY". Siting sever boost consistency problems. This shop supplied the finnishing parts (injectors, map sensors, tuning) that STS doesn't supply and doesn't tell you that you need them at time of order. Very dangerous for a novice to the turbo world. After 5 weeks of tuning, he and my performance shop came up with HALF of the advertised HP and 60% of the advertised Tourque.inconsistent boost, continual error codes, hanging idle and high intake temp persisted.
I again contacted several very reputable Dodge Viper tuners, explaining my problem and probing for help. Everyone ran away like the plauge. They wanted nothing to do with STS on my SRT-10.inCLUDING HENNESY PERFORMANCE!!!
After going threw all of this, i found out threw several Dodge Viper forums that almost every STS installed in a SRT-10 had gernaded the motors within a couple of weeks to a few months at best. STS blamed every one of the blown trucks on the tuning... Which is probably why STS does not supply fuel and tuning solutions... It can't be tuned safely!!!
After hearing this, I parked imediately parked my truck and purchased a second vehicle to drive. I found another local tune shop that was willing to work with the out of state shop that tried to tune my truck. This shop was hesitant to do so, because of thier personal experiences with STS's products and the many failures that STS has produced. They only agreed to work on it when they found out who the out of state shop was. A very reputable name in Chrystler / Dodge tuning.
All said and done, i invested $14k for a $6k turbo kit that has not produce nearly the power as what STS advertises. It still has boost inconsistencies, but thanks to my tune shops, most of the other demons have been worked out. I have every Dodge SRT / Viper / Perfomance forum sites telling me to cut my loss and ditch the STS before my truck ends up blowing up like almost every other truck that bought an STS system. I'm scared to even drive my truck at this point. All 3 shops that performed work on my truck have produced high HP, reliable, daily driven vehicles and can't do a thing to get this system to work correctly.
I'm not saying STS's products don't work, i'm just saying that they are crap for the Dodge Ram SRT-10. They should not sell them for this vehicle and being that they more then likely know this, they should give the unlucky fools that bought the system some sort of refund or at least assistance in covering the HUGE costs to make this sysem KIND OF HALF A# work. Or post a huge notice citing that you will need to spend $6k to $8k to make thier product work safely in a srt-10!!!
