I wanted to get my 89 GMC Sierra pick up truck painted to make it look good. I saw the advertisement on TV about Maaco. I looked up Maaco on the internet to find out the closest location. I found one an hour away from us and called them to find out how much and all. They quoted me $299 on the phone because I have a truck. If I had a car it would be $229. But since I have a truck it is $299 including door jams and bed. I thought thats not bad. And I drove my truck down there and had some one to follow me so I could get back home.
Once I got down there, they told me $330 for the paint job and that they would have to strip the hood and tailgate which is an extra $150. Or they would fix everything (door handle, dents, etc.) for $850. I told them I wasnt worried about the bodywork. I can put a new door handle myself instead of paying someone to do it. I am a mechanic. Butch, who is the saleperson, told me that my total has came to $530. I left my truck there and went home and came back six days later to pick it up and when I got there, I was very disappointed.
They did not sand, strip or primer anything. All they did was paint over my old paint. There were fish eyes on the sides of my truck and my door jams has not been painted. Butch told me ohh the door jams is extra. He had told me that the door jams would be included otherwise I would ve paid the extra money.
WHY would I want my truck painted and not the doorjams? When you open the truck it looks like shit! Butch said he had no authority over this and that I need to talk to the owner Joe Wallace. Butch said Maaco is a production shop not a custom shop. I was pissed! I took the truck and went home and called Joe Wallace. He told me to bring the truck back down and he will look at it. The next day I drove all the way down there again and Joe told me that he had witnessed that they sanded, stripped and primered the truck and that the "fisheyes" are rock chips.
I thought I had paid to have the rock chipped removed. Would I only want the rock chips out of my hood and not my whole truck I asked him. He told me that I was cheap and all I wanted was a cheap paint job.
I asked for the paint stripper so I could prove to him that it wasnt done right. He told his employee to get the paint strip and as I was putting the strip on the rust spot on top, he yelled at me and told me that he refuse to fix the truck since I was being an ass and for me to get off his property. I argued with him and told me to look at the rag. It has not being sanded, stripped or primered. He said "
Well, I apologized, I made a mistake. They didnt stripped or primered it. Why did I pay $150 to have that done? He offered to have the employee to fix the top cab and the bottom of the door. I told him I wanted the whole truck redone. He said no he will not do that, he will only fix the rust spot and the missed spot under the doors.
I told him that wouldnt do me any good. I am upset because they lied to me and still charged me for it and refuse to redo the whole truck. Butch told me since I got a cheap paint job that I couldnt afford a lawyer. He doesnt know who I am and what I got. They are in for a surprised!!
