Im in the military and stationed in virginia. I was in need of a car to drive to New York to visit my family on occasion. After searching for a couple months I finally found a car that i liked at a local dealer. After test driving the car i was satisfied with everything, but I had asked one question about a whistle sound that I noticed when the car was being boosted (its turbocharged). I was told that it was the wastegate releasing the excess airr from the turbo, all was good.
I proceeded to take the 300 mile drive to NY to visit for mothers day after the purchase. I made it there and back no problem. 2 weeks later I drove back home for memorial day weekend. A few hours into my drive back from NY I noticed a bit of coolant leaking from the radiator area. I stopped again and let the car cool down. As I get close to my final destination the car overheated and started bogging down. I brought the car to a nearby auto shop who then told me after looking the car over that the head gasket went and likely damaged the cylinder head, cracked the radiator and maybe cracked a cylinder, and that whistle sound could have been that gasket leaking air.
I proceeded to contact the dealer that sold me the car and they were reluctant to provide any assistance because in the 3 weeks i had the car my traveling to NY had put me over the 1000 mile warranty limit and I did not purchase an extended warranty. They also insisted that since they have never had any problems with any other vehicles that it was my fault and i was on my own.
I was sold a lemon and the dealer's unwillingness to assist me in any way is crime. I paid $11000 for the car and 3 weeks later I'm having to pay $6000 out of pocket to repair it. I've been completely ripped off.
