Used Car Rip Off - Misrepresentation

I bought a used 2008 Volkswagen Jetta from Mountain View Nissan on Friday May 8. During the sales process I asked the female sales person - not to show me anything that had been wrecked and that I needed a car that wasn't overpriced because I planned to refinance with my credit union. They told me that it was a reliable car, still under warranty with low milage.

After I drove off the lot I started experiencing problems the next day with malfunction lights coming on. I called the dealership and they informed me that the car was under warranty and all I would have to do is take it to the Volkswagen Dealership. I took it to Volkswagen of Chattanooga on May 12 at their earliest appointment opening, and once they put it up to examine it they found a host of problems including cracked parts and missing hardware. They informed me that it was obvious that the car had been in an accident and the Nissan dealership didn't try to cover it up. They told me that I had made a poor decision in choosing this car because it would need extensive repairs, and since I had only had the car for two days maybe I should try to renegotiate with Mountain View Nissan.

I immediately called Mountain View Nissan's used car sales manager and he went out of his way to help me, but accused me of running over something to cause the damage to the car. I informed him that I never ran over anything and now I had the carfax report that proves that this vehicle had been in an accident. I told him that I felt like the car had been misrepresented to me and that I wanted to give the car back. He told me that he would fix it and took a careful look at it.

Told me that he would have to order a part so it would be a few days. He did accomodate me by fixing the cracked charcoal canister, but that did nothing to fix the front portion of the car that was now hanging and the misaligned trunk area. I went to Mountain View Nissan because they were a reputable dealer and several of my co-workers had bought cars from them and were satisfied. I guess I just picked the wrong day or the wrong salesperson.

I went to speak with the sales manager on a second time about the matter and I took a friend who is a police officer. The sales manager said that he thought that I was taken care of and explained to me that they are not required to do anything further to fix the car because I signed an "as is" clause. He replaced the cracked charcoal canister and gave me a loaner car to drive for a few hours while the repairs were done.

After I came to pick up the car he rushed me out of the office because he didn't want to listen to my complaints about the car. I'm very unsatisfied with the entire experience and I'm sickened every time I look at my new wrecked car. I really hope that these people don't do this again to another naive woman like me who wants reliable transportation.
