Parked van at parking lot on 118 N. Washington in Mpls. Put money in lock box with card provided, including info requested by parking lot owner (vehicle license, name, money amount and date) and $5 cash, as no credit cards or checks accepted. No receipt was provided; honor system. Sign said fee was $5 between 6 PM and 6 AM, and we arrived after 6 PM.
Came back later to find car had been towed by company listed on sign at parking lot (Wrecker, Inc. Of 200 E. Lyndale Ave. N., Suite 100, Mpls., Mn. 55405). Son called police, who said there was nothing they could do about it, because was our word against parking lot owners word. Although there were 5 witnesses along with driver of our car who saw money put in box.
To get car out of tow company lot same night, was $206.69 for service fee (tow hook up); 27.00 for immediate storage; and 15.31 tax, equaling total $249.00. Tow said parking lot owner said no money was in box, even though our car was only one in lot.
Samantha of Blaine, MN. Reported the same company in 2006 (on internet) and to Fox 9 News Investigation. Same tow company, different parking lot (at 21 N. 3rd St. Mpls.) where she put in $7, got no receipt; cost her.
I found the following info on Wrecker Services of Mpls.in report on Internet, which includes this paragraph. I'm assuming it's re: same Wrecker Services.inc. "Wrecker Services: (June-Present) Three administrative citations totaling $600 have been issued to this compnay. This was based on a single incident and the city has not had any further issues with Wrecker Services. Wrecker Services' primary business is towing and rarely uses boots to address parking violations."
