We needed snow tires for our wheelchair van. My husband searched the internet as local stores were low on stock after the big 2008 snow storm. He found Firestone "Blizacks" (sic) at 78. Plus shipping. Then he called Les Schwab in Longview, WA. They said that they had some in another Washington state city and could get them in a week. They quoted him $65-70 dollars per tire plus balancing. This is what my husband heard and repeated to the guy.
They came in and they put them on the van. Then came the bill. $653.09. We told them no that is not what was quoted to us. Another man came over and said oh yes it was. My husband said he was wheelchair bound, but not mentally impaired and knew what he had heard. The guy got louder and said "no I did not." The other guy said " we'll take them off" My husband got into a you did, no I didn't match and then my husband lost his temper and mouthed an obcenity so I just paid them to get the whole business done with.
The man on the phone may have been talking two conversations at once when he talked to my husband on the phone, I don't know. But the warning is: get a written confirmation from these guys. They should tell you what they are going to charge when you first come up to the desk. They waited until it was late in the evening, after we had waited and hour etc. Etc. We of course, will never set foot into one of their stores again.
